How much did you pay for the car? :fencelook:

It looks like you had to spend more than the cars worth up to this point in time?

Great job! :bravo:

We got the car at a good price, and after all the fixing, we are probably in for around R50k (they sell between R50k-R60k with approx. 200000kms on the clock and fair condition. Good ones will get above R60k).

A quick update, the car is still running faultlessly. My brother-in-law's fiance decided to keep the car. They've done about 4000kms in it, no issues.

This one will probably stay in the family for a while still...

Sorry to revive an old thread...what is the difference between the 1.8 and 1.6 heads? Reason is I just bought a 1.8 utility and have found a 1.6 stamp on the cylinder head

From what I remember, I think the dome of the combustion chamber is slightly deeper on the 1.8 head compared to the 1.6 head.

I'll check with my brother-in-law and let you know. He saw the 2 heads side by side.

Thank you. Do you think the 1800 will run OK with the 1600 head? I dont mind the slightly higher compression, so long as Im not sitting with smaller valves etc

@Benji: sorry for the delayed response, I'm sure it will be ok, I've heard of stories before with different heads being used on the motors etc.

Update on this car, it started puffing a little bit, which had us highly confused.

Further investigations revealed that the exhaust valve on cyl2 is black and coated with soot and carbon buildup.

What does this mean? Well we suspect the engineers took a shortcut when theu overhauled the head. We supplied them with new valve stem seals for the head, but these were returned to us unused. (Odd much???) They also then told us that they fitted new seals. What's likely is that the old seals were put back in the head at the time of the overhaul.

<<sigh>>
