These may be daft questions but here goes anyway:

Would the above car be full auto or SMG?

How easy are they to change to manual?

Auto and SMG is different.

I don't believe that the effort and cost is worth the excercise. I would rather just look for a manual

I meant do they come out with a SMG type gear box or a traditional auto gearbox?

After driving an auto e46 330i, theres a greater chance of leaving it as is

Both were available options on the car. SMG on the 330i was not very popular though. Easiest way to tell is to have a look at the gearknob ...

If it says auto then it's most probably a normal auto, SMG on the E46 330's were few and far between! And the SMG's were most prevalent from late 01 to early 03.:thumbs:

These came out with the both boxes. The SMG is a decent box, but I did not enjoy it with my previous 325i smg.

MO_S has a 330i smg... He likes it a lot. So the smg is also down to preference.



If the ad says auto, then its a steptronic (automatic) gearbox.

M3 is a different story - it was only SMG or manual. The conventional auto box was never an option for it.

On the M3, if it says auto, it will be SMG.

IF NOT Transmission = Manual
THEN Transmission = Auto

They forget the

ELSE IF Transmission NOT = Auto OR Manual
THEN Transmission = SMG

part
