Hmm looks like it will give the cabin some good bass.. :coolShake:

If it were me I would cut off the screws and paint them black, just to hide them a bit. Or perhaps design a surround to enclose it. My 2c :=):

Ah okay, now I understand what you've done :coolShake:

Has the in dash dvd player/head unit not got a built in amplifier? I'd advise running the rear coax speakers off that because those speakers will be essentially providing rear fill, which should not compete with your front splits. Modern radios and head units are putting out a decent 20+Watts RMS so you'll struggle to tell the difference volume wise.

Also with your current setup the effective load that your amplifier is seeing on channel 1 and 2 is now 2ohms instead of 4. Combine that with the bridged sub and your amplifier is going to be working very hard and you might get some heat issues. Would be worthwhile to check if your amp is 2ohm stable per channel. Otherwise you could run into issues with the amp later on. Also moving your rear deck speakers onto the Head unit power will allow you to fade the system and better adjust your staging. Just my 2c

Good advice there Zound,. U r definitely right abt the amp heating up. Just discussed it with Spiro this week.

There's nothing wrong with the setup. The biggest problem at this stage is the amp that is the limitation.

You can just wire the front L and rear L in series and the same the other side and then u running 8ohms no load on amp, equal power to all speakers, don't need another amp, otherwise just run rear coaxials off deck and front stage off amp, the rears are for fill in sound and can still sound awesome.

Currently, in parallel format the effective load (impedance) will favour volume but will not favour cone control and therfore quality will be slightly reduced, to what extent I am not sure, possibly not even noticeable.

In series configuration the impedance will be substantially higher as seen by the amplifier and therefore substantial volume level will be difficult to attain. Which is somewhat counter productive to the addition of an external amplifier.

In both of the above mentioned formats the user loses the ability to fade between front and rear as well as the gains being set equal for both front and rear speakers. This means that you are at the mercy of the sensitivity of the speaker set. So correct staging is almost impossible.

But for the equipment available to them and without tedious wiring, YUBEN and Spiro have done a good job. The addition of another amplifier and some wiring wizardry will make this quite the sound setup.

The part I like most about this subwoofer install, besides the space saving is the isolation of cabin pressure with the mounting mechanism used. With my box setup I simply have my subwoofer aimed at the ski sack opening. This design and placement seems perfect for a free air sub! Would love to have a listen one day and see how it compares to a conventional box.

Let me know when u wanna hear it:coolShake:

BTW if you hook up speakers (with the same impedance) in series, you double the impedance and halve the power. The loss in sound volume will be 3dB compared to a single pair. This is the safe way to do things. In parallel you halve the impedance, double the power and gain 3bB, but only if the amp and speakers can handle it. If not you can end up cooking stuff if you crank up the volume. :RedNo:

I've done a little fuel analysis over the last 3 weeks.
Now I travel 40km return daily. Average time is 30-40mins of travelling. Average speed is between 29-31km/h.
My consumption is consistent at 9.9L/100km. I'm actually shocked at the brilliant economy I am getting on the 330i.
In terms of driving style, I'm driving as normal as i can. No heavy acceleration or braking. I get to 6th gear at around 50km/h and that's the beauty of the 3.38 diff.
Incidentally on my 1.6 Polo, I get 9.1L/100km so the 3.0L return is not shabby at all I would think.

Just thought I'd share:chef:

nice,
i'm also impressed with the consumption of my 330i,
for what you get in terms of a dynamic, flexible engine that can still thrill, the economy is better then a lot of supposedly economic cars that just arnt nearly as fun to drive

my average is about 10.4 with some hard braking and acceleration at times
