How come cheaper in CT than in JHB? Just out of interest

Jhb guys are not as price sensitive as CTN and DBN guys.

Secondhand parts can also be sourced at better prices down your neck of the woods

Let us know how the repair process goes. Sucks as I started reading your thread and was about to comment how impressed I am with the hard work you are putting in (still am) when I saw the next post.

So late update on this. Took forever to get the money out of the insurance but eventually got it. It pretty much will pay for the labour only, so for the parts I had to make a plan.

Lucky for me, @evnmopwr was a legend and helped me out with both a door and quarter body. Can not thank him enough for this!

So this is me, on Saturday 15th February delivering the parts:

Then 3 days before #lockdown 24th March:

Then the day before #lockdown 26th March:

So that is what the car looks like now. The last bit of re-assembling will only happen after the lockdown.

Oh and I will be looking for a new insurer after this.

Many thanks :)

The car is at Alfa Bodyworks in Athlone. I've noticed them also working on cars that you see for sale at Crossley & Webb.

Absolutely! Unfortunately I was at the time in the middle of moving between 2 houses and so my time was literally zero so I failed at popping in a few times.

Many thanks, but the well done really has to go to Alfa Body works for the work they are doing.

So I believe most know there are 2 parts to this. You have a broker and the underwriter. The broker just get a cut but also manage a bunch of things so that the customer/client (me) do not have to deal with the underwriter.

The broker is actually very good. They took over my broker part about 3 years ago and they really helped me through the process.

The problem was that the underwriter was Carbon insure (small company) that went under and Constantia insure (small insurer in Cape Town southern suburbs) is the problem. You don't want Constantia as the underwriter. Because with a previous accident prior to this one, the underwriter was still Carbon and the whole claim was much easier back then with the same Broker.

Received an unexpected phone call yesterday that the car is ready to be picked up. That was the good news after waiting 5 and a half months (I actually almost forgot about this car ever needing to come back)

A few bad news snippets.

- Wheel badges on the right side of the car missing (2 of them)
- Original wheel and tyre still on the right side. Has a cut into it and also was flat.
- The jack pad wasn't attached but they found it after asking for the wheel badges.

- Car still needs to go for specialist wheel alignment. Also the steering is completely out. It points north west while going straight and doesn't keep straight.

Even though this is the case, car felt rock solid on the road, albeit I was driving slowly back home. This car truly was in a better condition than my car before the accident. Also, the boot needs to be slammed to lock instead of falling shut like it used to. I will have to accept this is now a car that has an accident in it's past. Only a small thing though.

Here she is before picking up:

Back home in the garage on the far left side. (I have moved in the mean time to a new house)

David, go to Precision Wheel Alignment in Parow. They are the best.

Many thanks for the referral. Will give them a call.

Alfa's referral was Suspension City in Maitland.

Their comment was, its more than just regular 4 wheel alignment, also needs repairs which I do believe. So I hope Precision Wheel Alignment can also do that.

Either way, I do suspect I am in for a bit of a journey with this specific alignment the car will need. Accident and a panel replacement there at the back...should be interesting.

Haha. That is funny indeed...  :fencelook:

The one on the right was a rash decision made because I wasn't planning on having a rental for longer than a few weeks when I realised insurance is making payout last far longer than it should.

The one on the right is an automatic, but at least has black interior and mtech1 pack. Sadly that car while it looks good on the outside and even the interior cosmetically...once you jack it up and inspect underneath its a rust bucket. But it drives!

She looks good bud.
Check the boot rubber is Fitted right.

Sometimes they tend not to put it all the way in place and its slightly raised hence causing you ro slam it shut

Minor issue that.

PS: Im your guy if you need 330i suspension bits.  :fencelook: :ty:
