2002 ti - where to source

Howsit guys, i am trying to help a mate of mine source a decent 2002? any ideas, We've looked ate a few and one had a datsun motor while the others were pretty much cooked.

On this forum is a chap by the name of Classicman. He is seriously into the classics, and knows of nice 2002's doing the rounds. (They are scarce though)

I spoke to him a while ago. Was looking at getting myself on as well. Be prepared to pay though.

I could get a very very good 2002 through him/ them for around 65k.

You pay more for ti, and tii and turbo are virtually non existent.

The other car under consideration is an old 635 csi but it needs a new front fender and we suspec it might be near inpossible to source one...

635csi is a good car with definite appeal, racing heritage and modern performance. Every now and then one will pop up. Prices range from next to nothing for a complete dog too rediculous for a minter. Below a certain condition they are only good as donor cars. Currently the highest is an 85 for R130,000, and an 82 for R125,000 and average is around 70,000 for a decent condition one. Personally i think sellers are overestimating the market for these cars and this is backed up by the fact that most have been on the market in excess of 6 months. Beautiful cars... but you need to sell to an enthuesiast and for R70,000 you might be better off with something else.

Trim levels vary and the pre 82 models are a completely different car to the post 82 models. Outwardly the only difference is the rear bumper, foglights and antennae position. Beware that some cars are second hand imports so while it is registered and listed as an 84 it may be a pre-82 car.

They are hellishly expensive to restore. And there are not many is scrap yards.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but if you EVER see a 2002ti, post it on this forum.

Its reported that there are less than 50 2002ti's left on the roads(thats worldwide:bawling

Im restoring an orignal ti, so the number is getting bigger....

There are more tii's left, but still not alot.

good luck finding an original i once saw one in the fourways area it was a dakar yellowish one with alpina wheels on it, it looked :drool:

I actally got an origional 2002ti on saturday from a guy for FREE, but it is in real bad shape, but nothing that cant be fixed.:thumbsup:
Will probably take me a couple of years though.

I will post pics once the project is underway, right now its just planning.

I have had 2 of these cars in recent years. Both are now in Jhb. The orange car was very original but needed restoration. The Maroon car I restored for my Brother in Law. He has turned down offers of R100k on the car.

Not many ti's came into SA as all ti's ever built were LHD. The main differences between the 2002 models is as follows:

2002 - Single Solex Carb - 100bhp
2002ti - Twin Solex side drafts and mild cam - 120bhp
2002tii - Kugelfischer Mechanical Fuel Injection - 130bhp
2002tii Turbo - KKK Turbocharger - 160bhp and one mean powerband!

It is common for people to fit Solex or Weber sidedrafts to their 2002 and call it a ti. If it is not LHD then it is not a ti.

I'd like to see some photos of your car. If you send me the VIN number, I can check it out for you. I also don't know about the comment of only 50 surviving worldwide today. I'll check on the build figures later and let you know.[/u]

My cars inlet manifolds are missing, so if anybody knows where i can find ones, plz let me know.

Oh, and the ti had the same cam as all the other 2002's, but it had higher comp pistons(9.3:1). But a 300' sport cam was available from BMW, but had to be fitted by the dealers.

I got the info(less than 50 cars left) from the guy who runs te tii register(iirc). But such info is very hard to prove...

Cyclone101 sent me a photo of his red ti on a trailer, so it was his that you saw - talk about a small world.

Cyclone101 - who is running the tii register? Please can you send me his details. I am in the process of setting up a classic BMW website and want to start a register for 2002's and E9 coupes.

The tii register is run by "vince" from bmw2002faq.com iirc. You can pm him on there. He has info about 2002's dating back to the seventies.

I dont know if he knows anything about e9's though, but it is possible.

NICE!!! But I dont belive you till you post pics of it!!!

Keep it like that, its worth A LOT! According to the guys is germany, the ti is worth about twice as much as a tii there.
