2001 E46 2001 (pre-facelift) smoking when accellarating

Hi, I have a BMW E46 2001 320d model. The car is smoking badly when accelerating. Also I am not happy with the performance. It seems like the performance reduced a lot. Just go it serviced yesterday but no difference. The car has 280k. Can this be a turbo problem? Please advice.

No. I bought the car with 180K on the clock. what further suprise me is that on a long distance drive, the performance seems to increase. for example If I drive 100k on a open freeway, I can feel the power when changing the speed or using cruise control. my bigest problem is the smoking part (smokes only when accelarating and bad when moving from stand still position). it is really bad. when it is moving it is ok and no smoke.

I don't know much about diesels however, my 318i F/L smoked a huge plume of BLUE smoke when I pulled off from a robot ie: idling etc. I eventually after changing the PVC found that my Valve Stem Seals were worn. What color is the smoke coming from your car? My car is now on 240K
