awesome! by co-incidence I ran into this here fellow bmwfanatic :) as he was leaving, i arrived with my e39 530d (also with style 65's) to have my tyres fitted.

I went with Toyo Proxes T1 Sport. i however went 1 sized down, 265/35/18.

I bought em at minty's randburg and had em couriered down here.

they just starting to get sticky now and wow!! do they stick...

It will be re-tuned before the end of this week, can almost guarantee you that.

So on Sunday, 2 weeks ago, i get into the M5 to go to the shop.

Reverse out of the driveway, pull off normally in 1st.

At like 20kph I shift to second and hear a bang when I released the clutch. My first thought was, well fuck, there goes 2nd gear. So I shifted into 3rd while still rolling and the some noise happens.

Stop the car and get out, like 50m away from my house, look around underneath but cant see much. Get back in the car, same noise everytime the drivetrain is loaded (i.e. Releasing Clutch) in a forward gear.

Noise does not seem to happen in reverse, so I reversed home. Get to the driveway engage 1st, same noise but once the car will still drive.

I am thinking that since it is on drivetrain load that it must be a diff bushing or something of that nature. Any thoughts?

I will probably get the car on a flatbed to garage 808 next month since my wallet is empty after tyres this month.

I hope you have saved up lots of money for ///M spares. Sounds like either the syncros in the 'box or the clutch, but I suspect syncros. Does the car move in any other gear?

The car moves forward just fine. It's just when releasing the clutch that there is a bang noise (which comes from the rear somewhere). I suspect if I were to drive forward, get off the power and back on I would get the same noise.

I do not suspect a foul gearbox but it might be a possibility.

When you explain it like that, it sounds like the diff bushes. The only real way to tell is to get the car on a lift and inspect the drive line and all the bushes and the guibo.

Could also be gearbox mounts. But you will only be able to tell once it's on a lift.

on my ex.e39 525i i had that. Torn diff bush. Spray the diff.carrier.bushes with q20 and see if.noise changes....

Lets lift the car and poke around?

I am leaving it until next month. I have my thesis due on Friday and my final exam on the 3rd. As much as I miss driving it, it can wait.

Well, it's pretty bad...

Diff has torn from the subframe and the diff pinion bearing is collapsing. Garage 808 said they have never seen anything like it. I am quite shocked as I don't really drive the car hard, and when the issue happened I was barely even moving.

Damn bud, sorry to hear.

Silly question....
So what will be the best solution to this? Have everything re-welded and made stronger?
