Cheaper but older one with no issues? Or newer one with lots of issues and miles for more money?

That oil leak could be very expensive to put right. Could be a bearing, meaning gearbox out - 10 hours of labour on an E39 (or so I hear). Goodness knows what sort of complication AWD adds. Even a sump gasket is a big job, the subframe e.a. is in the way.

The other issues could be small or big. Propshaft noises are seldom easy or cheap. Airbag sensors could be expensive. In my experience electrics on a BMW are seldomly "just a loose wire." A xenon box of tricks is big bucks.

Just grab the 2001 and enjoy!

:sorry: was gonna say the same but Maljan was quicker. Great minds...

Thanks for the reply.

I am not scared of a high mileage BMW, especially when well maintained! Sometimes one with a higher mileage has had a lot of things replaced that the lower mileage one will be die for shortly (if that makes sense)

The issues on the new one was me being completely through, you can tell the car is well looked after. The older one with less mileage, also has a few issues:

Seat warmers dont work
Remote on both keys dont work
I suspect I hear a front control are knocking.

My big Issue is the M62 vs N62 Debate ?? Every forum I look on, the M62 seems to come up as the most reliable and the N62 is made out to be a ticking time bomb!

I understand where you are coming from regarding the lower mileage. The 2001 have a cooling system tantrum in its future whereas the other would have had it already. Probably.

The isues that you mention might not be so bad. Seat warmers are nice but one can live without them until winter comes. With both being dead it could be as simple as a blown fuse, just for once.

The key in the battery died from not being used. It actually recharges while you drive. Replacing control arm bushes is part of the BMW ownership experience. Sounds like you already worked that cost into your offer.
