Test drove a very neat e46 5spd manual on the weekend.

Overall condition is good, body is untouched interior needs a bit of tlc and black trim needs to be treated.

a few things that bothered me. the car is on 160k kms and when accelerating the gear lever shakes in second it doesn't jump out but feels like it is going to. There is a lot of play in the lever, so im guessing new bushes etc. The owner said the Camshaft sensor is reporting an error on diagnostics, but the car drives fine. I did think it felt a little "pap in die broek" for a 330i.

The other problem was that th sunroof litls but doesn't slide, and when it tilts in tilts inwards and not out. I would need to tak ethe roof lining out to get the up holster done any way, any thing to be specifically afraid of there?

other than that this is the EXACT spec I have been looking for for a long time in this condition.

If these things check out ill probably have this in my garage by the weekend.

only worry would be the play on the gear lever....

I honestly feel 75k for a 2000 model is abit much.

I thought so too, but finding the right spec in the right condition is a problem

Retail is at R73k, according to wesbank.

I would only be willing to pay more than retail for a car that is in showroom condition with little to no money needed to be spent on sorting out issues.

With the problems you describing, i would expect to pay something closer to trade (if not below).

Sounds like it could just be the centre bearing along with worn shifter bushes.

Not expensive but labour intensive.

Good point

Thank you

I would do the work myself if at all possible so i'm not too stressed about the labour.

Im not set and still looking at other options. Unless the car is from a fanatic ill scrutinize every single bit.

The seller wants too much for a car that is not in excellent condition. I bought a 330i 6-speed ('03) in December for a tad more. Keep on looking, or offer what the car is actually worth.
The center bearing is about R1000, and the bushes probably another R500 or so. The sliding and tilting sunroof might be a lot more expensive to repair.
