135i query

Hi Lads,

I will be looking for a 135i but have some questions:

Im told to stay away from the N54 but rather get the N55, do you get N55 in coupe version? If so what year model do they come in and how can i identify this? is the gearlever the newer type?

Common problems either than water pump?

is it only the exclusive model that comes with i-drive?

General consumption for city driving? im getting 13.1L in my Honda accord 2010.

I unfortunately cannot comment on the engine types and box types however I own a 2016 F20 135 and I’m sitting at around 10-12L per 100 when city driving (car only gets open road on weekends) and I basically fill up once a week.

Also I never drive the car in Eco mode which puts less a nice delay on activating the turbo so I’d say I’m practically 70% in comfort mode and 20% in Sport with that consumption.

Ain’t nothing wrong with the N54, just the crap attached to it. If keeping stock and want better fuel consumption I’d say N55. If you want to mod and play with it, I’d say N54. N54 has crazy potential

N55 is from 2010 onwards i think...but someone will advise better if im wrong.
I would go N55 - i see alot of guys in the states are doing the 2 turbo conversion into 1 turbo setup like the N55...reasons i dont know why

N55 is from 2010 up yes. but there are still some n54s as early 2010 models.

The N55 engine is good. I had a N55 DCT 2010 model and loved it.

Problems that I had was water pump, tappet cover and oil gasket that was leaking. Oh and Charge pipe.

Consumption is hectic. depends on how you drive too. So if you wanna buy a 135i then you mustnt worry about consumption :roflol:

I averaged about 18l/100km but most of the time went up to 21 :biglol:
But I had Jb4 and DP and drove for the gunshot sounds 24/7 haha

But if you get one, then it will be the best car you've ever owned! I miss mine so much!!! :blueCry:

Any of the models come with iDrive but very hard to find one with iDrive specced

Is it true that if i provide BMW with the VIN number they will have the full history of the car? Anything specific to check on when looking? i see most of them on sale at around 100k mileage

As far as In Car entertainment, does the 135 N55 have bluetooth music streaming of just bluetooth for phone calls?

Howsit bud. Like you, i too did lots of research before getting my 135 about 2 months ago (even test drove TheMo's car)...

I too wanted something that was as reliable as my FN2 Type R, but obviously with alot more go!...

Got the car at just over 98 000km...currently on 102 xxxkm's...

2 months in has not been great, but this is by far the most enjoyable car i've had...:thumbs:

Fuel consumption is a joke lol...i'm averaging around 12.4-12.9...right now, I think it's sitting on 13.4...

I've already upgraded the charge pipe, as TheMo stated, i've also got JB4 (not fitted yet)...and once the car is 100's, i'll do DP as well...

In terms of entertainment, I have BT (calls) USB (music) and obviously aux...

Not too sure about the VIN, but I did that when I bought my Type R, and Honda gave all the information I wanted. I'm sure BMW would do the same.

If modding big (300wkw upwards) definitely n54 if not then n55...

Not that the n55 cant do 300wkw... it can but n54 has a better base engine as it was bmw first turboed 3l 6cyl and they over engineered it.. it has forged engine standard..

135i 2010 onwards for n55 (single turbo)
135i from 2007 to 2010 for n54 (twin turbo setup)

Manual n54 are very sought after as considered enthusiasts car.. they fetch a premium if in good Nick with good maintenance history..

2 turbo to 1 turbo conversion is for big turbo upgrade... those 600 to 800hp cars..

Do it!!! Get either and I am sure you will be happy. Take out a 2 year unlimited km warranty to assist when the car is being a pain but other than that any used car or car that you will modify will give niggles and days you want to burn it etc.

I came from an FN2 Type R and holy shit what worlds apart, power wise and the way the car feels.

I have a 2011 E82 N55 135i DCT. I looked over a year or so for my car and I am so glad I got one spec'ed and coloured the way I wanted.

It is almost fully spec'ed with Idrive, PPK, BMW PE, gold calipers, carbon fibre bits etc and I can say this car is one of the most amazing cars. Every time I drive it I have a smile on my face haha.

With the Type R I was getting like 12.5l per 100km and with the BMW I sit on +-13l per 100km when I am not in sport or/and manual mode, then it can see 18l per 100km but I will live with the fuel consumption any day for the way these cars drive and tell you they will hurt you if you are not careful.

Me personally, I couldn't hold the mod bug back and ended up doing JB4, DP, Intake, Charge pipe and Stage 1 hybrid in one go :smilebounce:

These cars turn into monsters when you open them up, so N54 or N55 you will be happy and before you know it you will have the Pure Stage 2 turbo page as your home screen because there is an itch and you know its wrong to scratch it, but it whispers at you when you sleeping and eventually bam you have 500rwhp and its daily driven.

Do maintenance on them and when something is not right get it sorted out. I had the PCV and front crank shaft oil seal go which is a big job and pretty expensive but you must PAY TO PLAY :fencelook:

There are many knowledgeable guys out there who are always willing to help and advise and sell you mods haha.
If you are unhappy with the car or it was not what you wanted sell it and move to the next one but these platforms you need to experience at least once!

I had both for 7months. Hardly ever drove the Type R as every time I got in it I felt the rattles a squeaks haha. But it was a great car and I do miss it.
Ended up giving it to my wife to drive as a daily as she was nagging to drive it and I got a Spark as a daily for myself because I like the bmw so much I don’t want to mess it up

:thumbs: Good idea mate. on that note do yourself a favor and check the car out well, there are a lot of EX Modified cars that the guys have pushed through their ass and have dumped them with issues, just be very careful as the guys are cleaver - they pull off all the mods to make it look stock but the damage has been done and they dont declare it ( I hope those guys get the same done to them later in life ).

Yes BMW will give you a history but cars after Motorplan you dont know what they have done so do your homework.

the sound system in these cars are not anything fancy - basic Bluetooth will be Just for yr phone and there will probably be USB for mem stick.

Most of them have been modded as mentioned here already. Nothing wrong with a modded car if it was done right and maintained well.

At the E82 135i level I think you should try to look at buying from an owner/fanatic.. The examples out there at 'dealers' might be quite troublesome.. My 2c..

Else a F20 135i Hatch just off plan might be an okay bet too!

The history of the car is important!
