130i Advice

Hi All,

Getting my bmw 130i this week. :=): Now a friend of mine has one, however his is out of m plan so he has done software, decat + changed the airfilter to a k&n one. And it sounds awesome!!

I want to do the following but need advice.

1. I want to change the filter asap, apparently i can just buy a k&n cone filter and put it in the standard box OR i can get the simota induction kit? The bmw one is not an option. Obv the k&n route will be cheaper if i can do that route, suggestions?

2. WRT software, i spoke to CPI and then said apparently they can get me an extra 15kw+- at the fly, is this possible? Remember i am down in CPT. Another option is ATM chip tuning, but i have not spoken to the guy yet (Any good?)

Regards

Hi,

I did the k&n filter long ago. Its very easy. It fits the standard box. It's the E2022: http://store.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=E-2022

I'm doing my software next month. I searched all the different companies, the avg gain for our cars is 17kW.

17kw seems a lot though? It should go VERY nicely after the filter and the software

What companies can do the fotware for me in CPT? So far i only know of CPI and ATM.

CPI was R4300 though :(

Both users on the forum, Promotech and Rennzport, does it.

There's also Zeemax. Also look in the back of the CAR magazine and Speed and Sound, you'll see a few ads, some of them are in Cape Town.

Zeemax or Powerflow is doing my exhaust. I'm still deciding to do a quad pipe exhaust or just a freeflow

Hi Antec

Definitive Tuning may be the way forward for you.

With the decat done, a software map would offer a huge improvement in engine response and specific fuel consumption.

If you would like, we can meet up - Read your ECU and discuss how we can assist you?

i will eat my own socks if you get 17kw extra from a tune on the 130!!!!!!!!!!! realistically i would say 10kw on the fly.... unless its a really generous dyno, but that doesnt mean sh#t then does it...

Good afternoon guys,

I am interested in doing the same on my 130i, need to get a bit more power out of my baby. Carbon you mentioned that you have received quotes on doing your exhaust what would it cost me and where in CT can it be done? also I will be interested in doing the software as well which place mentioned that they could get 17kw?

I got the decatting done at Zeemax on Thursday. Did the piggy back system from Rennzport this afternoon.

Krake, I didnt get quotes. Zeemax was R2400 for decatting. I dont know how much Powerflow is. It took Zeemax 6 hours to do.

As I said in my previous post, I've seen in the ad's at the back of the car magazines that some tuners put the before/after tables in the ad. Most of them had between 12 and 17kW for the 130i.

For more info on the piggy back: http://burgertuning.com/BMS_Power_Box.html

I've noticed a big difference of performance, over the weekend, from doing the cats.

Gonna see after a few days what the piggy back performance does with the decat. By Sunday (for breakfast run) I should be on Map 7.

The next dyno day (3 March) we'll see the results.

Thanks for the advice carbon, did you notice any difference in terms of performance and fuel consumption? in other words would you strongly advise I do a decat and software or piggy back?

many thanks!

guys when i had my 130i i phoned everywhere and all the places told me that the tune, whichever one it was would give around 10kw. im a little bit confused, the burger tuning site says you get up to 10 hp from the chip.. if my calculations are right thats only around 7kws.. i really dont wanna seem like im being negative but i just dont see where this 17kw estimation is coming from.. i hope im wrong but i just dont see it happening..

when i chipped my car i did it with the dastek unichip q. car went from 190kw to 199.

like i said i really hope im wrong because a more powerful tune would be awesome!!

I'm keen to see the Dyno results now that you've done your decat.

Did you dyno your car when it was stock?

Yes, I did a few dyno days. Will get the printouts this evening and post them here

On Friday I noticed a big difference in performance and response with the decat.

On Monday I did the piggy back and set it to map 3. Yesterdays driving to Melkbos and back (40km's) the consumption was 17,6l/100. She was 'burping/hiccups' a lot yesterday cos she was running too rich.
This morning I set it to map 4, got to melkbos now (19km's) and the consumption dropped to 12,2l/100. She performed a lot better.
I will be on map 7 on Sunday for the breakfast run, can't wait to see how she performs

You are correct about the 10HP. My piggy back system is 10HP. But I will look thru my old magazines tonight and tell u what each tuner advertised for the 3l. I do remember long ago the 1 ad said 212kw

I think the ad for 212kw was from Upsolute Power?

www.upsolute.com

Upsolute 130i

This site says 206kw though.

Also, I haven't seen them adverstise anywhere in months, so I guess things didn't work out for them. One piece of advice I could give would be to go to somewhere reputable.

Yes, they one of them. The logo (font of their name) looks familiar.

I think they closed down that they havnt advertised for a long time.

R2400 for a decat? :roflol:

Just take it to any exhaust place and have the cats drilled out.

R500 max.

That's what I did on my E46 M3 and Z4 M Coupe.

Unfortunately on the 130i, they have to take off the branch to remove the sensors near the manifold, its not just the back box. I got the price down to R1200.

Here’s my past dyno day results:

Zeemax: 171,7kW/273Nm (June 2008)
Zeemax: 173,4kW/285Nm (March 2009)
DynoTech: 164,6kW/270Nm (March 2009)
Williams Automotive: 183,6kW/300Nm (May 2009)
DynoTech: 170kW/278Nm (Aug 2009)
Zeemax: 173,9kW/288Nm (Oct 2009)

The K&N filter was the only mod at all the above dyno’s. Will see this weekend what the decat and software does.

You can see the dyno’s are completely different. They nowhere close with readings. Look at the 2 in March 2009.
The weather also plays a role. If too hot the readings are less.
