120d Vibration damper replaced: Damn

For some time my 120d was starting to vibrate above 130km/ph. I thought it was the tyres and replaced them and then had the rims checked and balanced as well as the wheel alignment done but the problem persisted albeit on a lesser scale.

Then two weeks ago the car just lost power while driving...I eventually drove it home very slowly. Got her back today after the repairs, which came to a hefty R9,000. But she is fixed and running like her old self again. :joy:

Nope. I was looking at many things except that. I was looking under the car near the front wheels because thats where i "heard" the noise...eish.

What mileage on the failure . A mates car bottomed out at 190 K. But he use to drive the hell out of it

180,000...its my daily drive. Use it for work and private...very very frugal diesel.

Main crank vibration damper pulley - so all ancillaries run off this and the vibration damper is there to protect them, just like the dual mass flywheel for the gearbox. 180k km is not bad though! Maybe a case of replacing these things every 100k km to play safe...

So is there no way to check for early failure. Mine is at 160K now

I dont know. I am rather pedantic about my cars and will become aware of a real problem early on. Except for the vibration above 130Km/ph which I thought was tyres/allignment related...I would not have picked up the real cause. There were no engine warning lights...only the day that the car started losing power & stuck.

Yep, vibration at speed automatically one thinks wheels or alignment, not something with the engine itself. Only way to check this is to actually remove I would think, and the labour involved in this almost makes it feasible to replace the pulley...

Replaced mine on my E90 330d as well. Bill came to 10k as well but will admit its a different ride after part was replaced

I was browsing the G-drive website. Its about 5 K. Are these guys any good they are a bit cheaper then the stealers but selling the OEM parts. How is that possible?

Dealerships will always be more expensive due to the parts waranty and two year install waranty by them. :thumbs:

dealers dont warranty parts that are not fitted by them so that explained the labour charge but not part prices fact is the charge high prices because they can...
