2nd Vibration Damper replacement

today my vibration damper had a total failure, for the second time

over the weekend i replaced my power steering pump because it was not healthy anymore and made a terrible squealing noise. replaced it and all was good. not a sound (besides the usual diesel noise (its a 320D e90 BTW)

then after filling up with fuel the i felt the steering was a bit tight, so i thought maybe the belt came off the power steering pump so stopped and saw it was true, lucky i was around the corner from my dads how and stopped there.

as soon as I turned off the engine i heard a strange noise, opened the bonnet and the rubber section of the vibration damper was off.

now this will be the second time i needed to replace this thing, first time BMW did it, i did my sisters on hers and its running smoothly, but my question is how often do these break because reading around it seems to be a common problem and it pretty expensive to buy a new one every time

or could there be an underlying problem, i know my car has a squeak in the morning when its cold, but that goes away when i replace the belts (BMW only as the others squeak all the time)

i replaced my idle pulley as it was a bit moeg but that was 100K ago.

any help would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear that bud, I've replaced mine 2wice on my 330d. The 1st replacement only lasted 15K, so I replaced all pulleys at the same time.

I think the slightest of 'wobbly' on the pulleys could shorten the life of a vibration damper. Also check the quality of your belt and change it as per schedule.

The 2nd one that failed, was that an original BMW part?

Ive heard of non original parts not lasting....
