I have to firstly say that only after joing the forum & seen some threads on how important it is to use the right oil in your car did i think about changing mine to the correct one.....

So what is actually the right or most suited oil to use in my car :flyfun:

2005 320I e90
160k on the clock

Any suggestions ?

I always use oil supplied by BMW.

Currently BMW users Castrol 5w30 Magnatec in the E90.

BMW is also much cheaper with the oil prices then at Autzone or Midas.

im going to say Liqui moly because it does not have the sludge issues the dealers stuff seems to have :)

Top Tec 4100 5 W-40 is what I recommend to my customers who hammer their cars from time to time

Top Tec 4200 5 W-30 for those that hardly ever drive hard and sit in traffic all day or do very short trips

both have all the relevant BMW approvals for your car

On my e90 320i I use Castrol Edge 10w-40. As the car is doing higher mileage a "Thicker " substance oil I found helped.

im using Top Tec 4100 5W-40 on my 1999 e46 with almost 200k on the clock no oil usage at all...

10w is only the cold thinness by going thicker there all you are doing is making the oil take longer to start protecting the engine...

Liqui Moly all the way!

I bought a bike last year, and the official dealer I bought the bike from, don't use the recommended/prescribed Castrol, they use better oil.

The guy who services my cars, uses Valvoline. I asked if I can supply Liqui Moly - He said I can bring him any oil to put in my cars, but if I bring him Castrol, I am not welcome in his workshop.

No Problem. There are better oils out there. I have been playing with the idea of using a different oil like Liqui Moly. But it will be come down to your personal choice.
