Imagine if you were not OCD and felt comfortable putting dirty parts back in...youd probably be done with the project by now not that that is an option of course This is going to look and feel brand new

Never understood guys who slap things together.
The extra effort to clean parts although small has major results

Today was D day for bearings.
I have been putting it off for a while as it is a tedious task at the best of times.


The main bearings were superb not that I expected anything untoward given that the engine was quiet when I stripped it.
Given that the car will eventually be sold I wanted to make sure that all would be well in the future.



New main bearings fitted.
I chose NE bearings which are of German origin and manufacture
A closer look of the visible big end bearings equally shows no concerns.
Fitted a set of big ends from agents as those are specifically designed for the S engines and aftermarket do not go to the same lengths as OE design.


everything changed and now need to do final torque however did not have my angle torque with me so it shall wait for tomorrow.

All bearings changed and torqued.
I had every intention of taking a pic of the outer bolts but forgot...use your imagination.


Time for the front tensioners and chains sump oil pump etc.

And we continue with a few more parts being fitted.
I had the cylinder heads re done with new valve guides new valve stem seals 8 new exhaust valves and an ultra light skim.


New cam followers which are ludicrously priced as were the exhaust valves. In 2 years the prices on this engine have risen by more than 30%.

Good work! Are there any benefits to do a spot of "gasflowing" on the head while it is in the open, or is the S62 very well designed from factory - like the S54...

General consensus is that the head is at the maximum and any porting would entail different cams and the bottom end would be compromised.
The biggest improvement for small money is long tube headers as well as a more efficient intake

Extremely efficient in protecting the engine on the first start.

The touring takes a special axle carrier bush which requires a very special tool to extract.
I do not own such a tool so I made a bit of a plan...had to cut the sides of the bushes to get my regular bush tool to fit with a bit of modification..



After spending the day on them I was succesful.
Note the gas torch to keep things warm.

By now the mounts are cracked and loose.
You can get aftermarket if you love pain and doing the work twice in relatively quick succession

Considerable progress today in getting the rear reassembled


The M5 has 2 rear stiffeners that attach on the front axle bush bolt.
Using the touring bushes prevents one from using them so I am fitting 2 Touring bushes on the rear and 2 M5 bushes on the front of the axle carrier
