Hi gents and ladies,

A little bit of a discussion here regarding the vibration damper.

I had it replaced November 2019 (206900km).
My car is currently at a workshop to have the power steering pump replaced and they found play on the vibration damper - Like you can actually see it moving (side to side) by hand.
Despite age, would it be common for it to have to be replaced within 5 years? Car is currently on 287xxx km.
I don't see any cracks in the rubber.

On my ex E90 320d LCI I had to have it replaced at 82 000km when the car was just under 5 years old. I believe it to be a serviceable item that will need replacing over time/usage.

Hello

I am on my 3rd vibration damper.

All replaced by BMW with OEM parts. First replacement failed before the two year warranty lapsed, so BMW paid for it.

My car on 183k km's now.

Generally you get around 60k kms out of a non oem dampener, and up to 100k kms on OEM, anything above this is generally on borrowed time.

Given that you have done around 80k kms on the current one, id say it is definitely something to keep an eye out on, to catch potential failures.

Often the rear of the dampener wears out, and obviously cant be visually inspected whilst on the car, as far as i know, there should not be any play in the dampener.

Good time to get it replaced whilst already at the workshop
