Good morning,

My "toy" has 120 000kms and I intend changing the gearbox and diff oils. Any suggestions on brand/s of oil to use or should I use the OEM stuff?

Thank you
Naeem

Depends where you are based...

if in JHB, then ZF Germiston is your best bet for the gearbox service - they will also replace the diff oil (no additional charge when doing the gearbox service) but you need to supply the oil.

Would suggest you source the diff oil from BMW.

Agree with Riad, ZF will be a great choice . I had great service when recently ,had them service my Amarok gearbox

So I had the gearbox and diff oil changed (both OEM and relatively pricey). Diff oil didn't look too bad but the gearbox oil was dirty. Noticeably smoother gear shifts, especially going from 1 to 2. Glad I did this preventative maintenance :)

who did you do this with and do you mind sharing the cost?

Hey NBN,

Oils from BMW came to R2300 (thats 2l for the gearbox and 1l for the diff. Theres a bit leftover as the gearbox takes 1,8l and the diff 0.8l) Labour cost was R1 350. I have a mach who does all my work at my house. The fee includes his travel cost and time.
