Attempted the LCD pixel repair with a new LCD and ribbon from PixelFix. It was as fiddly and irritating as one would imagine it to be. Hateful job. Ended up with 2 lines of pixels not working, reinstalled the LCD which resulted in 4 lines not working. 3rd attempt resulted in 6 lines not working, so decided to quit while I was still ahead. Indeed, it is better than it was before:WhatsApp Image 2023-06-30 at 10.06.03.jpgCapture1.JPG
One of the reasons I got this car for a bargain was the previous owner thought the car had 300k on the clocks when it actually has 200k  Apparently there was a bad batch of LCDs from PixelFix, so might maybe one day possibly attempt to find the rare motivation and scarce time to maybe redo this job possibly. Not.

I have not driven the E39 for about 2 months due to life happening. I decided to take it to Rustenburg and I was promptly rewarded with the trifecta...
WhatsApp Image 2023-10-31 at 07.19.26_c9cfb383.jpg

However, the trifecta was soon made insignificant when an alarming amount of steam started emanating from the bonnet as I returned into jhb...One of the coolant pipes to the HVAC heater core had sprung a leak. Armed with a 5L of water, I made it home on my own "steam"

R2000 for new pipes and a 2 week waiting period at least gives me time to deal with the condensation appearing in the headlights. Car is also booked for the paintwork which will need to be put off for a few weeks now

Hi Benji, great work thus far bro. Looking forward to seeing the project completed ๐Ÿ˜.

Razeen, who's restoring mine, replaced all of the lines/pipes just to err on the side of caution. Expensive but gives peace of mind.

Will you be retaining the headlights or upgrading to xenons? The projectors were changed on mine and it makes the world of difference, makes driving at night exciting as you can actually see the road ahead lol. Will send you a video demonstrating just how much of a difference those projectors make.

If you can find the xenons somewhere please upgrade, will make a world of difference.

Thank you, I have actually been in contact with Razeen, he is doing good work on your car and it is borderline criminal that you are not documenting the progress on this forum... ;)

I am doing a huge black friday order and with enough leave and a bit of luck, I'll be able to get this car "finished" over the xmas break...that is if nothing else breaks on the car in the meanwhile...

If you read back a few pages, I am running stock projectors but have upgraded to OEM Xenons with new headlight adjuster arms etc, did make a massive difference to the light output. Probably most of the difference was due to the headlight adjusters tho...

@Benji when are you selling this car to me?

It will make an awesome Bull Run car (if/when they change the rules) and we should therefore stick to the tradition of swapping cars for this noble purpose.

Let me enjoy this one for a bit first, but will be selling it eventually to fund my next car - that other German sports car brand that everyone on this forum seems to gravitate towards

Oh and a fairly inconsequential mod I did, E60 comfort headrests (E60 left vs stock on the right) which are a plug and play affair. They have an adjustable lower portion that holds your neck in place while you have a nap - very life threatening for the driver, but a boon for passengers. Dont say you've never been rudely awoken by your head hitting the window during a deep snooze on a long road...

The adjustable side cushions were not staying in place, so I removed this weird foam stuff and replaced it with a suitably modified piece of fuel hose to hold the cushion adjuster in place. Perfect.

Now I can say that I have bits from 4 separate seats to make one extraordinarily comfortable seat - Amarok grade indeed.

Will have a proper build write-up as soon as the project is complete ๐Ÿ˜.
I'll read through your build thread properly, missed the part of the lights.
Fitted new adjusters as well, the plastics ones though. I do know that metal ones are available but can't seem to source them.

Amazing work done on the seats ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿพ, you don't happen to know where one can find e38 comfort sport seats laying around ๐Ÿ˜‚? Stone green in colour but willing to take any other colour.

Thank you. Yeah no, you are going to struggle to find a set of those, nevermind in that rare colour, that's why I eventually decided to build a "tribute" sport-comfort and they are fantastic, after the exhaust note, probably my favorite thing about that car
