Decisions, decisions...

Hi Guys,

Need to hear some thoughts from you on this one.

My SO has owned a F82 M4 for the past year and it was always her dream car. The problem is she is finding the larger size (coming from a F22 previously) a bit challenging. So she has decided that she is going to get a F87 M2.

If you are unaware, I have owned my 2018 340i for almost 2 years now and still love driving it. I have done some work on it and all details can be seen in my thread.

The question is should I take over the M4?
Specs: 2015 with 53k kms. Mineral grey with Sakhir orange seats, full carbon kit. One previous owner.

The pros over my car is obviously that it is an M car and it's a beautiful spec. My only deterrent right now is that I've been in an F series car for 8 years (228i, 330d, 340i) and am not sure whether I should just let the M4 go and upgrade in future to a G series vehicle which would more than likely then be an M-lite though.

Thoughts?

Man that is a stunning car. Ultimately you need to follow a good combination of your heart and head as you will need to live with that decision. If It was me. M4 all the way.

Unpopular opinion, but I would keep the 340i since you will have the M2. The mix of the practicality, performance and new interior of the 340 is probably going to much easier to live with on a day to day basis.

Hey bud , in support of letting the M4 go as you maturity side (as we get older) tells us its not practical to hold on to 2 coupes so the 340 should stay :)

Is she going for the Comp or N55?

While I don’t take my own advice, I would say let the M4 go. Keep a practical car around. If you’re upgrading to a G20 later on then perfect. The luxury and tech will be awesome.

You make a great point, I have used the M4 for 2-3 weeks straight on a few occasions, and actually preferred being in the 340i on most daily drives.

So this is where I gave her advice. She was looking at the Comp initially but the ones within budget have 50k kms+.

Her dad has owned an N55 version since brand new and it only has 11k kms. He has offered it to her since he has a G87 on the radar for next year. I told her personally it's a no brainer for me, especially knowing the history of a clean car within the family vs the Comps we looked at.

Peace of mind is priceless. That’s a great move.

Is her dads car gray?

I really don't see why you'd even have an M340 with an M2, the M2 will do the performance bits 100% for you, might even consider downgrading or moving to (eugh) one of the X models. Certainly wouldn't be sensible to have an M2 *AND* an M4 under one roof!

Sounds like an amazing garage to me . But you're right, it's not the most sensible and mature route to go. I might as well get into an SUV at some point.

After some careful thought, we've decided to let the M4 go. I will put it up in the for sale section soon.

Definitely the right call! GL WS and enjoy the smaller, lighter, funkier M2!
