New Owner - E89 Z4 28i

I wasn't in the market for a car and then all of a sudden I was :ROFLMAO:
I had been reading a few threads by @osiris and then I made the mistake of testing driving this car and the rest is history.

The car:

  • 2012
  • E89 Z4 28i (180kw)
  • 8-speed auto
  • 35 000km
  • FSH - agents

More pics to follow after the detailing next week.

The story:
I was skeptical about the mileage but the printouts from BMW, the stamps in the book and the dealers story all checked out.

The car was used at the owners holiday home.
There was a gap in service history from 2019 - 2022 when covid hit and the owner passed away.
His wife sold it to the dealership (neighbours of the owner of the dealership - who all the sales staff knew socially).

My 2012 E90 320D LCI Exclusive (135 000km) will remain as my daily until (if) I decide to sell it. Haven't decided as yet.

The car is in impeccable condition, apart from:
  • Body imperfections - swirl marks, the odd dent here and there and minor scratches. It is 11 years old and has probably been washed without care.
  • The drivers seat bolster is showing a bit of wear (I thought this was odd, given the mileage).

Questions:
  • The sound system is terrible. I have the S676 HiFi Speaker System in both my vehicles. It sounds great in the E90 and horrific in the Z.
    Why!?

  • I don't have iDrive. Has anyone had any experience with installing a screen and iDrive knob in an E89?

  • Without me taking the car apart, any idea what this cable is for?

Bro. I've gone through every page of your threads 😂
Won't daily it for now. I sit in traffic every day and the diesel does it job there and has all the comfort and economy I need for my 45min commute.

I intend on keeping her for a long time. The shape is timeless.
Looks stunning in Black!

Congrats , many happpy miles
Congratulations!!! Looks really good in black.
I thought so too! Wish it was a 35i, but this ticked every other box, including the colour that I wanted.

With so few clean examples on the market, I'm happy with the purchase.

That is stunning! Amazingly low mileage as well, congrats
The low mileage came at a bit of a premium. Fortunately it really is (near) spotless.

Insured for half its purchase price. I'm in the process of getting a valuation done to increase that.

haha nice man, hopefully you got a lot of valuable info from that thread. I think my thread is useful for anyone with a E89 or with any of the cars that have the N54 platform. I cover so much stuff.
But glad you found a mint example, they can be hella expensive when they aren't and you carry the OCD disease like I do, it really isn't a good combo!

It does look good in black but it is a ball ache of note keeping it clean. If you're not dailying it then it shouldn't be too much of an issue though.

My 320d is black and on 135 000km. The few stone chips it has are an absolute eye sore just because they stand out against the black.

OCD - for sure. The guy fitting my smash and grab yesterday left a small scratch on the fender. Of course he categorically denied doing it.

I really hate having people work on my car.

Getting PPF put on next week hopefully (full front).

Yea well this is why I changed the colour of my car to white. The stone chips and the swirls and light scratches that keep appearing no matter how meticulous you are with the car eventually got too much for me.

The E89 has this amazing ability of sucking up all the dirt from the road onto the back bumper and boot lid where the badge is. Ahh man it drives me up the wall.
But The drive and the fun the car gives just makes it all worth it. I seriously love this car, usually after this many years of owning the same car I would be very bored but I just can't see that happening any time soon.

Yesterday I had a full front PPF installed at LVL2 Ultrafit in Midrand.
Service was great and the car was well looked after

LVL2 used to run VPS Midrand before.
I have used them on all my cars since 2020 (Boxster, Cayman, Polestar, Macan) and had zero issues. Workmanship is tops and their product works. Also used them recently as LVL2 Ultrafit on my Macan for the rear bumper PPF.

Highly recommend.
