Do you think this is a good buy ?

Can gaurentee that you won't be getting anything remotely decent at that price range.
There is definitely going to be accident damage, paint issues, mechanical issues or something for it to be at that price. Best bet is to get a R500k-R600k clean example or know that you are going to spend R120k min on these refurbs

Dekra is mostly clean
Then you likely only read the summary. Judging by the comments and pictures, there is a reason this car ended up at WBC.

I'm going to assume you've never owned a M car before so you're not aware of M tax? It's been said before, you will likely need to double your initial budget of R70k to get the car risk free. I would suggest you read up more on these platforms.

If all the sage advice is not to your liking, take the gamble and let us know how it goes.

Agree with you here. The comments alone without seeing the car should tell you to rather walk away and pay more for a better example.

For me, any car with a 'partial service history' is a no go. The below comment also sounds scary :)

Major paint damage and/or signs of major paint rectification on multiple body panels.

Well there you go.

No chance I would pay more than R200k for this car as it seems a good R180k easy to fix properly. And then still have the unknowns of a 15yr old car, which clearly has not been meticulously cared for.

Its been on the WeBuyCar floor for almost 2 months if not more… red flag.

Dealers would have bought it if it was worth it.

With regards to the paint comment from WBC, I tried to sell my Polo to them and they mentioned the paint thing. Funny thing is the car had never been in an accident and had been in the family since brand new.

Just go see the vehicle in person and take it from there/

Well if they listing it as an E46, tht would tell you they havent put much effort into this, like the above post says, go see it in person.

From the Dekra Report, id honeslty say, apart from the tyres, it looks in pretty good condition, i do see some flow marks on the sump, but that could be from water and seepage/sweat over time and its stained it, bu i dont see signs of a bad leak anywhere,

The only other problem i can see, is that its a convertible :D but thats personal preference hahaha. go see it in person, go for a test drive, and try take some one with you that may have a wifi adaptor to check codes with MHD or Protool, or any other portable diagnostic device. dont just rely on what they give you.
Check codes, then clear the codes, then go for a drive, when warm enough then give the car a bit of a push, when you get back, re-scan for codes and see if anything has come up after the drive, that will be a good indication.

ALWAYS BEEN WANTING TO ASK - Do they (WBC) allow potential customers to scan cars for codes?
Ive taken my scan tool to every BMW ive ever been interested in,
I was refused by WBC once, and i told them how can they legitimately expect me to just accept what they tell me from the initial acquisition of the car. he then gave in and said i can scan it myself.

So yea, i say go for it, if they say no, then id generally walk away.

I actually have been looking at 2 seater convertibles as the daughter has a car and the kids mostly never travel with us anymore. I have a bakkie for work so was looking for something open top and fun. Im not in a hurry so just browsing and browsing, even considering maybe an old classic and restore thing.

Ordered a scan tool will go and view this one when it arrives though.

A convertible B6 S4 also caught my eye the other day. The problem is there is so much variety as im not only looking at BMW. I intend to maintain whatever i buy on my own so want to start with a good base, would love a V8 but a good straight six, v6 will also be acceptable, no turbo and no fwd.

Im sure the right car will turn up and really talk to me, not going to rush this purchase.

This probably is worth it if you're turning it into a project and can get it well below that asking price, perhaps something as a base where you can strip pieces into a wagon and build up that way. But as a car to own it seems like a nightmare. E92 Manuals are creeping up in value, so to see one at WBC indicates it likely is a dog already. The dekra report should have made you run for the hills.
