technical E90 fault codes help

Hi everyone.

So to start off i purchased a E90 320d 2006 M47TU2D20 engine 2 weeks ago.

Got it for a steal, new engine fitted new turbo new high pressure fuel pump.

After about 200km the car would randomly switch off when driving.

Owning previous petrol bmw's i knew the culprit would be either crank or cam sensor.

Replaced crank sensor.... after pulling almost everything off to get there. Intake ended up not being tightened down, only one bolt holding the EGR throttle body (if you could call it a TB) loose starter even if it was brand new...

It's like they were limp wristed putting things back...

Anyway went through the entire engine tightened everything down baught new bolts and nuts etc.

The car was down on power (like very down on power) when i bought it but i knew mechanically it was sound.

Now all boost leaks are fixed pipes tightened down etc the turbo spools hard at about 1200rpm but still no power.

It has a decat gazorst but it doubt it will cause limp mode.

I ordered a INPA K+ CAN diagnostic cable with the switch but it's probably only going to arrive next year.

So i ran diagnostic with my cheepie obd2
Cleared the codes and scanner agave me the following codes that came back
P1278
P14a0
P0545
P2620
P1426
P0031
P1213
Googling gave me different results for each code.

Hopefully someone one here can tell me what these codes mean for the 320d e90.

For instance one code is for throttle body... umm it aint got no throttle body 😅 only egr.

Really want to get it sorted so i can go on holiday this December.

Not really keen to drive it 1000km+ in limp mode.
Even though im getting 4l to 100km 😂

Halp please...

Oh one more thing. I noticed its leaking power steering fluid out of the rack ends where the rubber boot is. Are these racks serviceable with new seals and o rings if so where do i get the kit? Goldwagen was no help. Or must i replace the rack ?

hi francois did you manage to get your bm fixed

Hi there, nope not yet. I got sent the wrong cable. Ordered a INPA K+CAN cable for bmw and got a MPPS cable instead.

So waiting on dealhub to sort out their mess.

Bmw still in limp mode.
Went on holiday like that as well. 4.2l/100km aint bad and it keeps its 120. Had it up to about 180kmh in limp 😂 so its faster than the 1.4tdi 3 banger.

Just accelerates as fast as sap out of a tree.....

i have a launch aswell but i think inpa or ista can do more
The easiest way is to use the beemergeeks standard tools suite where it installs all the software for you.
INPA NCS expert and dummy etc. its specifically written for windows 7 to 10.

download link below (its freeware so hope no one poops themselves for the link) or if its removed just dm me then I can send you a link to my dropbox/google drive

Here is a step by step video on how to install it as well

I am located in Steelpoort.

Thanks ill try that link
did you check all the plugs on intake manifold on the back bottom side, there are 2 1 for swirl flaps and one for manifold/boost pressure

I did yes. The swirl flaps uses vacuum i think. Has a vacuum line going to a diagram and a solenoid. All connected. The Manifold boost pressure sensor as well also connected.

What stumped me a bit is the cheapie diagnostic showed exhaust back pressure sensor circuit open.

However there is no exhaust back pressure sensor nor is there a pipe/line coming from the dpf/cat like is shown on the parts catalog.

Parts catalog shows 2x O2 sensors and one vacuum line on the DPF However my DPF only has one bung for O2 sensor which is present.

The car has got a new ECU as well so i am wondering if maybe they put in a newer ECU and got the later software on it.

The wiring for the back pressure sensor is there as well for an additional O2 sensor but both wires are caped off.

So i get the feeling its in limp mode because its looking for those two sensors which the car didn't originally come with. 🤔

that could possibly be a problem, but are the newer ecu compatible with the older engine ones
I read that the e90 320d that have a down turned exhaust does not have a DPF, and later models with a normal zorst do, engine is still the same m47 its just for different markets. the wiring is all identical just some things have been coded out in software, same as when you put downpipes on or decat then you need to code the cat or dpf out. ECU is essentially just a computer that's given instructions via software. cant see why it wont work.... think the n47 and m47 ecu might not be compatible. but if its the same engine then it should work.

at least you know how to do it
Ncs dummy has got an instruction manual, it also makes it very easy by putting everything into checkboxes for you if you have the ecu trace files. Then its a matter of checking each option you want, saving the file and flashing it to ecu.

Not really, even though they are ZF racks you can't really buy the seals for them. You can buy a secondhand rack or preferably have the rack professionally refurbed and installed for a few grand.

my opinion, do not attempt to do it yourself. If you have fluid or even wetness out of the boots, you are on borrowed time/the rack is already shot.

Yup its shot. Only problem is finding someone to rebuild it here. Im in steelpoort. No one here can do it.
Any places you can suggest that i can courier it to ?
