Injector clean 320d E90 LCI

Good day ladies and gents

I am taking my 320d to BMW for a 180 000km service in 2 weeks- oil service, diesel fuel filter and cooling system flush. Doing the microfilter and air filter myself.

My question is however, is it necessary to do an injector clean from BMW? The car still runs beautifully; no problems whatsoever. Just for preventative maintenance. And what task is performed to clean these injectors?

Thank you. :)(y)

I drive a E90 330d. I use Liqui Moly diesel injector cleaner every 5000km or so. It costs about R95 at Goldwagen. I use it for preventative measure and the car runs smoothly.

As for "what task is performed to clean these injectors", I have no clue but Im pretty sure theres a labour and parts charge. It's up to you really but I must say that I have the utmost faith in Liqui Moly products

Does the injector cleaner perform the task of actually cleaning the injectors completely? BMW quoted me an additional R1700 for this. So, it would suffice to just add the injector cleaner, with some diesel I assume?

1 bottle of the injector cleaner can be used with up to 70lt of diesel. It's not recommended to use it with less than 20lt of diesel in your tank.

This product does not guarantee that your injectors will be clean after use but with regular use (adding a bottle to your tank every 2000km) it definitely does the job

From my understanding if the injectors are dirty because are particulates in the fuel then they should be able to be cleaned by soaking or flushing some cleaning fluid through them - hooking up to a device that activates the injectors and physically allows the cleaner to flow through them.

If however they have carbon build up then that isn't going to clean the carbon out as that needs to be sonically removed. I'm not sure if there is a difference between petrol and diesel injectors in this regard.

You mention your car is still running well but maybe a shakedown of your injectors will help a bit and prevent future issues from excessive build up of dirt if it has already started.

It's sometimes tough to tell if it is a money making exercise or a good preventative.

BMW will remove Injectors and place them in ultrasonic cleaner.
They don't flush or reverse flush.

If you want it done I suggest bosch workshop. They actually flush and give you readings afterward.

Karel at auto technik in Pardon island does it too
