Hey everyone,

I've had my 2002 E46 330i for close on 4 years now and I was wondering whether it needs a tune up of sorts to check if the original factory settings are still within spec. I'm not interested in any sort of remap or stage 1 tune etc, I am merely inquiring as to whether a 19 year old E46 needs a check up to see if the fueling etc is exactly the same the day it left the factory

The 2002 will not have the latest ECU software if that is what you want it can be done freely now even by yourself. I have personally done this on 3 cars now.

My 2001 330 was still the original first version of the ECU firmware, version 430037. Made a backup and loaded the latest 430069 version
Both 2002 330s were on the 2nd update version 430056. Also backed up their ECU firmware and loaded on stock 430069 version

I suspect your car is probably on version 430056. As for changes, there are actually very little from version 430056 to 430069. Mostly DISA valve maps from my understanding.

However as @AdiS said, all these cars need is strict maintenance and keeping it fresh all around you will be good.
