Car belongs to the same owner of the silver Z3 which sold for R350K and was shown here.

It has some 105Ks and will have bearings vanos repair and clearances done as it is offered for sale.

A full and comprehensive set of pics recording the work performed will be made available to the buyer as well as the invoice for the work done.

Motor is very clean for distance covered.

More pics later

You've done this job so many times now P, i'm sure you wake up in the middle of the night, sleep walk to the garage and start changing out bearings :=):

Hit a bit of a snag with this car

Bearings had been previously done and by the looks of things not too long ago maybe 10000/15000Kms I would think

Wow... so bearings were done but were still problematic?
I see marks etc...

So now this is going to be a big job it looks like.. good luck..

Anybody that is willing to strip an engine an document it too as well as publish definitely knows what he's doing..

I suspect that there were compromises made when they worked on the car,
Too many variables and not enough information as the previous owner emigrated.

I suspect that the work that was previously executed on this engine was compromised.
Too many inconsistencies that do not make sense.

that main bearing looks terrible, i once saw something similiar to this, after engineering was done on a block it was not properly clean, the oil channels left debris that damaged the bearings because of that, this one looks like it was put back together but did not really care about how clean the area was were he was working

Before I became industrious

After I became industrious

New crank is in and tomorrow I shall do the big ends and hopefully start the engine over the weekend...more to come

Finished assembling the bottom end.

Some interesting pics of what damage can be caused to powder metal conrods when you are careless.

Striped the oil pump to verify clearances and to see if there was damage on the pump vanes.
All ok.

And started at the top

Job well done Peter, too bad the owner won't enjoy the fruits of your hard labour.

So many people on this forum do this, why sell the car after spending so much repairing it? I don't get that logic, why do people do that?
