2007 or 2008 Z4 M coupe owner by a young forumite came in for bearings and a cleaning of the head.
Also needs clearances to be set.

Car has 119000Km

Cams were removed to clean the head properly
This is after the third pass

Owner wanted to be involved in teh work so he stayed over.
That is he cleaning the engine....whilst I am doing the camera bit.

Nice! Are you guys doing the whole motor or only going for head and bearings?

Head and big end bearings.
Vanos-Rattle Kit has been done.

:skit: big end bearings ? what was the problem and how many kms ?

Think this is just precautionary... And from looking at ADIs E46 M3 bearing job, with just over 100 000km on it, it's a great idea

Dont know why my post went through so many times, must be the bad internet in Zim.
Ok 100 000 should not be a problem at all thats why I ask, it should be a rare occurrence rather than the norm, but If you have enough cash to do then I suppose its for your own piece of mind.

Cars at 70000Kms have had copper showing on their bearings
Once the bearing is worn down to the copper shell it becomes a lottery as to when it will bite and start rumbling at best or in the worst cases have a rod through the block.....
I shall be posting some pics tomorrow of the bearings and I am sure you will have a better understanding of how imminent a failure it can be.

Not being an alarmist by any stretch of the imagination,do some googling on bearing failures and you will read that by the time you get to hear the rumble it is too late as the crank will have been scored.
