Z4 (e85/6) Angel Eye LED options?

Hey guys,

Has anyone had any luck in sourcing decent LED bulbs to replace the stock BA9S 10W bulb in the angel eye/halo light on the Z4?

Struggling to find a bulb that is bright and also has the necessary canbus/load resistor to not throw the error (and resulting in the turn lights being activated).

I've tried a couple. It's easy enough to take the stock bulb out and try LED's without having to replace the whole unit, but they are mostly too weak, or the ones that are bright enough don't shine in the right direction, etc.

If any of you have had any luck... would appreciate finding out what worked for you... and where you sourced yours from...

Thanks,

Pete

Looks like no one has come right with this... or no one has tried... :)

Well, I just received my latest attempt today... 5 and 9 SMD apparently with canbus, so will try install these this evening or on the weekend. I will let you know how it goes!

Holding thumbs....

:coolShake: GOOD luck - you can be the guinea pig.

I find the Lights good on my Zed.

Quick update... so I tried the LED's... and although nice and bright... and despite the 'canbus' they still give an error (hence the indicator on)...

So... still no luck...

Next step is possibly trying a 10W resistor. Otherwise back to a stock 10W BA9S....

Wait, does the entire thing need to be replaced with the housing?

Hey Mo,

No, you don't need to replace the whole housing.

I managed to just replace the bulb itself. It is just a normal BA9S (Bayonet bulb).

I ended up getting the LED bulbs from jabsport. As mentioned, it still throws the error (hence the indicator lights are on). But I am not fussed with that for now.

Might try get a resistor to put in to stop the error.

Good luck with your change. It's pretty quick and easy once you know where the bulb is.

Will try find that pic now quick and send to you...

Regards,

Pete

The important things to note are:

1. You don't need to take your wheels off (although it may make it easier). I never took my wheels off. Just turn steering to full lock to get easier access to the light area.

2. You will need to first remove the plastic cover that sits behind the lights in the wheel arch.

3. You will then need to remove the cover actual light cover which is held in place with a steel clip that you pull down and towards you. You can then remove the plastic cover which reveals the back of the lights.

4. The angel light bulb assembly thing is next to the main light. On the left light it will look like the pic below. You need to reach deep in and feel for it and then move it either clockwise or anticlockwise and it will clip out of place (to replace later it is just the opposite movement - obviously).

5. Once you have unclipped it - you can pull it towards you and have a look at it. You will then be able to push the bulb in slightly and turn it anticlockwise to pull the bulb out of the housing (normal bayonet style).

Give it a go and let me know if you get stuck. But like I said - it's pretty easy once you've found your way around and tried it!

Thanks, so I just need to get the BA9S bulb..
im still not understanding why you get an error if the bulb is simply replaced..

I get an error because I opted for a brighter/whiter LED bulb... not a standard halogen bulb...

Not sure if the Z4 is the same but I coded out errors in my E90.
ie. telling the car to ignore/skip the bulb test.

Think Carly is too basic.
I have Carly as well as NCSexpert.
NCS gives you all options, although you need to code in german lol.
(there could be an english version by now, not sure)

Did you get the USB, Bluetooth of wi-fi?
I was told USB is for our older cars.
