Z4 cosmetic maintenance

Hi guys

Z4...

I'm in Durban, the glass on one fog light is broken, must the whole light fitting be replaced or can the glass be replaced? Also, the headlight glass had gotten a 'worn' dull look, almost a patchy smoked out look, where can I get it polished to clear that up? Drivers seat back cover has come loose, too, but it seems like the holes where the studs go in to hold it, have been damaged...would greatly appreciate some feedback, thanks.

The fog is one sealed unit, if the glass is cracked, the whole thing needs replacing unless I am talking shit and then someone must correct me.

The worn dull look can be polished to bring back the glass look as long as that's outside and not on the inside.

Meguairs sells a restoration kit, or if you are handy, try googling a few DIYs.

Involves sanding and sanding, and sanding and sanding then polishing with various grit compounds to bring back to new.

Unless you are competent with a machine polisher, do not attempt using machinery, rather do by hand.

Cheap enough to check the scrap yards for the seat back cover, unless its looking tatty, some strong glue will do the job.

My wife's 5 series' headlamps also got foggy. From my experience, I'd rather let someone else who knows how just machine polish it instead of attempting it by hand. Its not that expensive. That car's headlamps also got foggy in the inside (don't know how the F that happens). A lot of guys out there that will open the headlamp (cut seals), polish and then glue back. You do however risk water leaks.

Hi Jerry, there is always Mr Lens that sells the plexiglass lenses for both the headlights and fogs. Have a look at the website and call to confirm if your car is supported. I am interested in buying a set of fog lenses for my car, if you are as well please feel free to PM me and we can share the costs to ship them to Durban.
