Hi guys

needing some advice on brake pads and discs for a 1999 Z3 MCoupe . Been to check out BMW dealer , Midas and chatted with PowerBrake .

was hoping i would get away with just a pad change , but after a look the disc's are looking sad .

SMG BMW dealer
front: disc R2162 (each)
pads R1262
rear: disc R1357 (each)
pads R779

Midas-Tonneson
front: disc R1350 (each) ATE
pads R633 ATE
rear: disc R1350 (each) ATE
pads R247

Power Brake -JHB
front: GT Kit disc's + GT3 pads - R 5745
rear : same set up - R 3858

my question is :
money is tight this year , but i need a fair valued deal . Is there a major difference in the performance of these parts from various sources ?

this car is for road use ......if sometimes a bit spirited . i have a track tool
for being silly in .

thoughts , comments , advice ?

thanks

If money is tight by the ATE discs and pads from Midas.
I will not buy the Power Brake kits again.

just dont want to be getting the same parts from dealer that are being sold cheaper at Midas .

what sort of discount will BMW dealer give ?

what is wrong with the discs

can they not be "restored"/"refurbished" by skimming them

we do skimming of disks in the shop without removing the discs, a portable lath is attached to the shaft, and then skimmed....but I suppose if the discs are to thin already, or damaged then you would need new ones.

Why?

They warp as soon as you fit the second set of pads. :fencelook:

Maybe just a bad experience on my side? :dunno: I just find that the BMW OEM discs last better and can take more punishment.

Discs do not warp
Pads wear unevenly on the disc and deposit material which creates the shudder often associated as warped discs.
That extra material can be cleaned off the disc with no ill effects by following a specific braking procedure.
