Speak to moranor I bought my disc and pads from him,
I will be fitting this Saturday if you want to wait till then for feedback,

but speak to him. he is a nice guy .

Yes, send Moranor a PM. He'll sort you out.

Do this!! (Sean) Moranor will help you out.

Or

Check your tolerances, they might still be OK for a good skimming... but personally I would not do skimming on a performance car.

All due respect to Ralf and his business of course.

Discs do not warp
Pads wear unevenly on the disc and deposit material which creates the shudder often associated as warped discs.
That extra material can be cleaned off the disc with no ill effects by following a specific braking procedure.

I don't think this was my case. They got too hot and warped. And I mean smoking hot after some emergency braking from high speed. They were never the same after that and they reached minimum thickness long before the second set of pads were even close to needing replacement. I have never had this issue with BMW pads and discs. But like I said, maybe just my bad luck. :dunno:

my stock calipers say ate on them:idea: nothing wrong with ate parts if they are the maker of your break parts

this being a 5series,and a honda ballade and 2010 accord and merc cls and bmw ti and 2 other nissans, maybe m car is different

ATE Kit from Midas...

if you are braking hard... then you are braking either too short or in the wrong place.... if you taking it for track driving, that's another debate... I agree with SP33DYV on this... Either BMW OEM or Midas...

thanks guys

my ZMCoupe lives on normal roads , not brave a enough to risk her at the track .

not feeling confident on the Power Brake , as there havnt been any raving rants on them here .

are most brake parts for OEM made by ATE ?

thanks for the Email Eugen

on the M cars BMW is not bad on pricing and they have good stuff especially the disks :)

confirm the ATE are the right disks for your car if so no reason not to go with them... im not sure if the Z3M got the semi floating disks or the normal solid ones...

as far as I've seen, most of the component, and oem holders for BMW Brakes are ATE or Bosch... depending on Model... Year, Type...

It seems to use the same discs as the e36 M3. Looks to be solid and not semi floating.

Yes they are exactly the same sizes and therefore 100% interchangeable, but the M coupe originally came with the semi floating ones like the 4dr 3.2. Unlike the solid ones from the 3.0 coupe M3.

Hi guys

needing some advice on brake pads and discs for a 1999 Z3 MCoupe . Been to check out BMW dealer , Midas and chatted with PowerBrake .

was hoping i would get away with just a pad change , but after a look the disc's are looking sad .

SMG BMW dealer
front: disc R2162 (each)
pads R1262
rear: disc R1357 (each)
pads R779

Midas-Tonneson
front: disc R1350 (each) ATE
pads R633 ATE
rear: disc R1350 (each) ATE
pads R247

Power Brake -JHB
front: GT Kit disc's + GT3 pads - R 5745
rear : same set up - R 3858

my question is :
money is tight this year , but i need a fair valued deal . Is there a major difference in the performance of these parts from various sources ?

this car is for road use ......if sometimes a bit spirited . i have a track tool
for being silly in .

thoughts , comments , advice ?

thanks

When you have money you can buy the front discs from BMW.

guys thanks for the advice

got all four corners apart to check the pads .

rear is looking ok , disc as well .

fronts need replacing and sensor had come up as well . see picture for what was fitted in the front , Textar which i havnt heard of .
front discs have a bit of a lip on the outside edge , but measure 26.5 which i think is ok

so am going to fit front pads today

If your discs are well within tolerance, have them skimmed by Ralf, the fit the pads.
