Z3 M Coupe decat

Im looking at decatting my 2000 M Coupe. What exactly does this entail? How many catts are there in the exhaust system? Should I get them drilled out or should I just remove the box and just put a straight pipe? Is there any sensors I should be aware about?
Sorry for all the questions, just want to make sure it is done properly.

I actually phoned Viper Exorst 2weeks ago and the guy said to me that there are two cats(if i remember correctly), they cannot cut out the cats and replace with just a straight pipe because it will make the car sound very 'Tiny' so they replace the cats with a smaller box! so it doesnt sound tiny and does make it sound better.

AFAIK there is a sensor! without this sensor the motor cannot determin the amout of gases passing through so the timing will be out! (maybe sum1 can make more sense of this). Viper Exorst does make sure the sensor is reading and in place ans was quote R2100 for the job on my mcoupe.
