Consider the cost of a new engine and gearbox to get the car going. That's the only reason someone would let a car go and give up fixing it.

My opinion. I could be wrong.

If you thinking of stripping it for parts I say Yes.
if you thinking of repairing , I say No.

No, Judging from the intercooler hanging I'd suspect quite a bit of damage underneath, Non-Starter..Possible sump damage and all the oil leaked out and that's besides the gearbox having damage (Money pit)

Make a few calls and see if you can source a gearbox/engine in good nic, and if they are readily available.

That should give you an indication if its a project worth taking on.

R16k is not a lot, maybe even worth it, just for the spares?

Are you willing to spend less than R16000 plus Rxxxxx to get the car running? Can you not use the same money and buy an already running car?

Even if the kms were 100. If the engine is shot, the mileage would mean nothing.

My answer in short, NO.

I'd rather look for a manual 330d in decent condition and a better colour. Will probably work out cheaper

A cheap BMW could well be the most expensive when you start to add maintenance costs.

I say buy it and sell it for spares

I would say , have a good mechanic look at it first , then make your conclusions from there . I have seen cars look worst then that turn out to be gems just because the buyer had a good mechanic look at it , that inter-cooler hanging could have been caused by the towtruck , etc , Non running might be a big or small problem , Good to have a mechanic look at it then make your decision , Also , I feel the cars probably worth more then that in parts so you cant really loose .

Can you get a picture of the undercarriage?

2002 BMW 330d A/T (E46)F/L | Buy Now/Online Daily Sales - Buy It. Fix It. Love It.

in general smd staff don't try and start an engine if there are any visual damage..but obviously you dont really know
so a lot of times they advertise it as non runner where its actually capable to start with little effort
the negative side to this is that you are not permitted to go and inspect the car beforehand on daily sales....but if there are no interest and it go up on branch auction you are permitted to veiw it the day before
so its basically a hit or miss
