Xenon Fitment

On the E39 facelift headlights, the projectors are identical between Halogen and Xenon, the only difference is the bulb holder at the back. My dad bought cheap aftermarket xenons for 9006 bulbs and after a year the ballasts failed, so I took BMW ballasts, cut the plugs off the old bust ballasts and soldered them to the BMW ballasts. Now the BMW ballasts run the aftermarket 9006 bulbs, still has that brilliant blue/white colour and I have yet to find a bust BMW ballast.

PM zaa, he has done this conversion.

Also check out his thread about his 528i, there is something about it in there as well
Hi Freerider, does anyone do this in Cape Town.

hi all
im very keen to do this!! i currently have a topaz blue 525i 2001 e39 :) yet to see another topaz blue one in capetown lol :)

im very keen to do the xenon thing, i would just like to also find out what "replace ment bulbs" cost when they go.

i dont wanna put any cheap and nasty crap on my 5...

i was wondering, has anyone here done what the guys over at bimmerfest and bmw5.co.uk do, i.e the fitting of the ccfl to the angel eye rings..
looks SICK at night.. yet it looks tasteful and non-rice-boy.

so what do these geniune bmw ballasts typically cost? new or 2nd hand

another thing, since these balasts run high voltage, does the lighting's fuse still work with the std factory fuse?

cheers
Anton
