X5 Jerking Problem

Hey guys

So my dad X5 3.0d which is an E53 is having an issue with I presume the gearbox, he has taken into an independent workshop twice now to be sorted after costing him R45k and he still has the issue of the car jerking.

The gear shifts are no longer smooth and when you put foot flat down, the car jerks quite a bit before it actually starts to move.... I would like to know who would be the best mechanic/workshop to go to that won't be a rip off and will provide quality work to sort the car out.

When did he take it to the 45K mechanic ?
How much mileage has been done since the repair ?
Is it still within their warranty/guarantee/KM period, if that is the case take it back to those bozo's and get them to sort it out

This happen around August, then he took it to the mechanic, he claimed he fixed it, the car came back was driven for a few more kms not exactly sure on the exact figure.... But problem was still there car went back to him and came back slightly better then the last time but still not right. The car is no longer in warranty or guarantee.

Try to find out what gearbox you have first. IIRC, the earlier model E53 should have the GM boxes. The later models had the ZF. Easiest way to tell on the 3.0d is that if its 5 speed it should be GM, 6 speed is the ZF. (The 4.6is had a ZF 5 speed box though)

If you have a ZF box, take it to ZF directly - cut out the middle man, as ZF know those boxes the best. You can use Google to find their details.

If GM, no idea - maybe someone else can chip in on that.
