We, the family, have just taken a slow, peaceful ride via the N2, over Sir Lowries Pass to Hermanus and had a brilliant lunch and walkabout. But, the bit that has prompted me to write this is about the fuel consumption. Average speed going there was a mere 104KPH and fuel consumption was 11, 6 l/100Km. On the way back we came via the R44 past Kleinmond, Betty's Bay, Pringle Bay and then along Clarence drive, Baden Powel Drive and back home. Average speed was 107KPH and consumption was 11,4l/100Km. This in an X5 4,4 V8. On my last daily drive I went to PE for the day in the 325Coupe and back home my average consumption was 8,8 l/100Km and speed was an average of 111KPH. Now I think one can then say that BMW's are very efficient engines, Yes? Cause I think that those figures are pretty impressive.
Must also say it was very tempting on one or two occasions to want to boot it a bit but, I refrained. And I stuck to the left lane and was a good boy the whole way there and back.
Now the last time I saw good consumption figures like that was with a Jap 4x4 DC diesel bakkie. So I reckon us BM drivers can brag a bit about our cars efficiency with some pride.
