Gosh that sounds bad...

To my limited understanding, a knock sensor is there to determine if the engine is pinging from poor fuel mixtures, now having a knock sensor error together with a host of o2 sensor errors only confirms that the o2 sponsors are dead and need replacing, I am assuming that the puddles o2 sensors are reading that the mixture is "rich" and the DME is trying to lean it out as Best it can and that's triggering the knock sensor error...you could also try to swop out the sensors between left and right and see if the error changes between the diff banks...that way you will be definitely sure that its the sensors and not anything else before you invest in new sensors...

Best pricing for a new sensor is definitely a Diesal electric near you, take a sample with you but don't tell them it is for a x5, sometimes I found prices differ for the same part purely because of the high profile vehicle it comes from..

Good luck..

So had it at a exhaust place, put it up on the lift and they said noise is comming from the gearbox, then took it to carnetics in centurion, and they said the noise is coming from the gearbox.

There was a new error as I pulled into carnetics, STOP ENGINE! OIL PRESSURE.

The car was stopped, called a tow truck to take the car to ZF, the gearbox is still under warranty, but the guy that loaded the car made a comment that it sounds like cams.

Any more advice guys? Its costing a shit load just to have the car towed.

Thanks

Could you find the fault on the 4.6is?
My one uses water lately. Need to take it for a presure test. Hope its just a small pipe leaking. its 5000km down the line since i last filled the bottle so might be something small.

I hope you sort the 4.6is out. I enjoy every minute with mine.

Not sorted yet, but took it to Steve's in Alberton.

Apparently the OIL pump had a malfunction, the bearings are shot due to that, and the guides at the timing chain is obliterated.

So I don't even what to know what that will cost:nonono:

No Problem.

Will send you the details tonight.

The quote came back on fixing the engine

Lets just say, replacing the engine + Labor is half the price.

I have read that apparently it is a common problem on the V8 for the oil pump bolts to come loose although i am not sure if it was only the early (1995 thereabouts) that had this problem and it was suggested that these bolts should be checked and tightened which sounded not a big job since removal of the sump was not too difficult. (Apparently!)
