Was wondering if anyone has had problems with worn/broken engine mountings on the X5, in particular the diesel models?
How long are they supposed to last before one has to replace them?
Advice will be much appreciated!

It depends on driving style, but they don't last forever. They are actually vacuum operated, so the ecu can adjust the firmness of the mountings, and as soon as they start to crack, they are always at the hardest setting, until they completely fail. Of course, if they are always on the hardest setting, it means more vibration at idle, as well as more noticeable gearchanges.

It does seem to have more vibration at idle and i have been noticeing a sort of harsness when accelerating gently. At first my thoughts were that it could be the sump guard that is maybe touching the engine somewhere when i accelerate but then the engine mountings came to mind. If they are vacuum operated then i assume they cost the earth to replace??
