discussion X3 20d F25 Motorplan Extension

Hi fellow fanatics

I hope everyone is having a good start to the year. So as the title suggests, the motor-plan on my 2017 F25 is coming to an end in mid-February and I was hoping you guys could assist me in making a decision. I don't usually keep my cars until the plan expires but with the extremely crazy car market, upgrading is not currently an option.

The mileage is about to hit 60k km and the following was recently carried out:
Brake fluid service
Oil Service
Brake discs and pads (front and rear, I think)

Do I fork out R24k to extend the motor-plan for only 1 year, taking into consideration that BMW only do oil services every 18 months. (is that correct?)
Or do I take out a 2-year PinnAfrica mechanical warranty via BMW Supertech for R14k and pay for services.

I'm not at all mechanically inclined so there is zero chance of me getting my hands dirty should something go wrong.

I've attached the table of limits, not sure how clear it is. My vehicle falls under the 'M' category.

I personally feel like R24k for 12 months isn't worth it, especially since BMW have become much stricter about MP claims... Especially on a 20d, but that's just my opinion.

I'd rather use that money towards preventative maintenance that BMW does not offer, or will not do under MP (Gearbox service, transfer case and diff fluid flushes, dampener pulley etc...).

I think I've mentioned this before, R24k is insane compared to Audi's plan-extension that start from around R10k. I was hoping BMW would have a Black Friday special 🤣

Had you not already done discs and pads, I'd have said go for it. However, on a 20d and at low mileage with no real big ticket items on the horizon I am also in the boat of using that money to do other preventative work (if not now then as the need arises).

I am not very familiar with that particular warranty so can't comment, but I am sceptical of the "unlimited" cover for certain items. I am not a fan of non-manufacturer plans.... but then again I have a different approach to maintenance and repairs.

Honestly, I would not renew the plan and would rather have an aftermarket warranty taken for peace of mind, should any big ticket items go, unlikely as it is. I have a policy with Msure currently, this is the monthly warranty for R353 per month, it has already covered R10k on the X3. I have taken policies on a few different cars with great prior experiences (335i, 320d, X3).

I would then also just keep on top of preventative maintenance - do your fluids, filters, etc. BMW won't change your gearbox/differentials/transfer case oils under plan in any case, which is where it starts to add up a bit. Its just not worth it at the price point, the money will be better served elsewhere, my 2c.

My brother has 2017 420d and is in the same boat, I have given him the same advice.

The warranty plan for 14k is good and you get a maintenance plan for 3 years with nine things over 3 years 100k, 3 oil services with all filters, a brakefluid flush, 2 front pads en disc and 2 back pads and disc, pm me your email then I will forward the info, its about 28k

So my motor plan is up in 9 months. I got an email from BMW with the following information:

I feel the service plan is fair enough. R6k is not bad for filters, oil and plugs. Brakes and discs are easy to do myself.

Any idea if this is worth is?

I did some research here, you're basically just paying for your services up front instead of ad hoc... So there's no real benefit IMO.

Im in the same boat. Got a quote for oil change and filters, i think there's 4 filters, the quote was R6200.

JSN quoted me R12700 for a 3 year oil and filter service plan. Im actually considering it.

Ive looked at the M sure plan for R353, may get that although it doesn't cover really high value, I supposed it's better than nothing.

I got a quote from ABM for air, fuel, micro & cabin filter for R3k which I am going to get. Double check if you getting the right discount on the filters.

I am due for a 100k service in a few weeks, going to do the below:
- Oil filter and oil at BMW (R1.5k)
- All filters plus coolant flush (R4k)
- Transfer case, rear differential and front differential oils (R3k)

I have the same Msure warranty and it paid out R10k already (wheel speed sensors). It offers some peace of mind and you have the option to go OEM parts or aftermarket.

Shot bro, I will check that out. I think the MSure option is a good one.

The car required an inspection prior to the warranty being purchased. While the car was there, they replaced the diff and a few other items before the plan expired. Invoice attached.
