Would you go Hybrid?

Taking into regards that fuel prices are reaching new frontiers and putting foot doesn't really help, would you consider a hybrid? I think the active hybrid 5 is rather sexy!

If by hybrid you mean one turbo diesel for town driving and one twin turbo petrol (N54) for urban driving, hell yes!

Why sacrifice so much in terms of motoring for fuel consumption? Yes sure my M3 might use 12-13 l/100km, it sounds great, its raw and exciting and makes you feel alive and the driving experience is just epic. I will never give this up for R500 per month less fuel.

I still believe Hydrogen cars is the way to go, hybrid still uses petrol or diesel, yes its less but the need is still there and the only way to preserve oil is to stop using it.

Hybrids are expensive! You have to do a couple hundred thousand km before you start saving money

I don't see anything wrong with diesel quite frankly. I'd love a 640d...
Looks awesome and goes like hell

I would consider a small capacity diesel hybrid, or one of the new 3 cyl's with a battery. BMWBLOG says the new 3 cyl sounds good and goes well.

Fuel is my biggest expenditure at the moment

will a diesel use braking energy to top up the tank :fencelook: as stop start traffic is the main cause of high fuel consumption seems like a good idea...

what if they combine electric with diesel?

prices will come down in time like all new tech...

I would only consider a hybrid( assuming combustion-electric) if it were a plug in hybrid with a range of at least 50km on elec only. Added benifits if its diesel or uses capacitors for elec storage.

I would never consider a hybrid or an electric car until they start using proper power generation (and storage), any car that uses batteries for electrical storage make no economical or environmental sense.
