Would like some input from our diesel owners.

I know this sound very strange but can I please ask a few to check the following on their diesel BMW's.

If I open the oil filler cap on the tappet cover on my Z3 3.0l and my 320i I can only hear the vacuum and almost no mechanical noise. On my 330d I hear much more mechanical noise! Is this normal or do I have a problem, engine seems to be fine but when I stopped last night it was if there were some ticking noise comming from the engine, hence this check. The sound is very similar as when my engine ingested one swirlflap a few months ago. No swirlflaps on the car now.

Hope I get some input from a few of you guy's, thanks.

No matter how awesome the performance, the engine noise will always be noisier/harsher on a diesel compared to petrol. They aren't called tractors for nothing...

Thanks all, it's just amazing how much noise there is with the oil filler cap open. Just want to make sure that I do not have something at HAND here!

My Diesel is not a TRACTOR... its a Lion Purrrrr  Diesel is Noisy !!!I don't think that you should be Worried unless you notice that there is a drop in power or that the noise is different or alternates on occasions when driving.
