P1000 AWESOME PHOTO'S MAN!
Very very nice!

:ty: I'm still getting used to the lens, getting the composition right is a challenge, to say the least (as can be seen from most of the photos).

Wanting to attend and being there is not the same thing, though
We'll let the universe decide.

One golden rule for most fisheye shots: Keep level and always let the horizon (or straight line which acts as reference) cut smack through the middle of the foto. This has least amount of perceived distortion, but is tricky enough I guess. You actually get nice software that can take fisheye pics and compress the middle in a way that you end up with a normal wide angle foto.

Hmmmm, who makes these rules? Because that one is certainly made to be broken. In fact, the best shots I've seen are not like that, and you certainly do want the viewer to perceive the distortion, otherwise just use a normal UWA.

I have various software suites that can do that, but that kind of defeats the purpose IMO. Also it does not work well without cropping a bit, because 8mm is extreme and everything at the edges ends up being stretched to far. (A rectilinear UWA would also stretch the corners, but they usually don't go below 10mm (with the exception of a few new lenses, but IIRC they are not completely rectilinear))

In any case, I know I went overboard with keeping fisheye on the entire time, but I figured the other guys will cover the normal shots, so no need to duplicate.

I have to agree with P1000 on this one, the distortion is what makes it interesting, I really like the way those photos came out with that lens.

You are right. Rules are meant to be broken. I should rather have used "tip" instead of "rule". And I went out of my way not to use any absolutes. "Most" fotos are "perceived" to have less of a fisheye effect when the reference line such as horizon goes through the middle, because it will then not bend a line which our brains try to perceive as straight. Most people do not know this and are confused that the horizon is skewed.. I also dont have a problem with your photos (which look great btw) and would not have said anything were it not for your comment. At the end the composition is your choice and unique compositions are always more than welcome.

Cool then. Actually, the problem is getting the subject where you want it in the frame (without sitting on the bonnet ) and getting the background to work without getting too much clutter in the shot. Having 172degrees field of view is what makes that a challenge, as you can imagine.

Off course, Uber's car is trained very well, and it is difficult to take bad photos with such an experienced model
