Good day everyone - I am looking to purchase a OEM SatNav system for my X5 - I will be needing the widescreen monitor, harness, Trimble and DVD drive.

Thanks

There are several versions the Mk I, II or III or later, all will fit your car.

After Mk II you dont need the trimble any more and the Mk 4 is DVD based with the fighter pilot perspective which is nice.

You are looking at serious cost here around R25K new or 10K used.

My side for the E39 I gave up on this idea took a chance and fitted a Dynavin DVN-E39A (D99+, Windows CE) last week - has satnav and just about everything else you could possibly want in a car.

These things are not perfect but the newest 7th generation ones are actually very nice, I am happy with it for 6.5K I couldnt do better, one or two small bugs but other than that they are cool. Stay away from the Android one unless willing to fiddle forever.

Thanks ...... I have been looking at the aftermarket version but correct me if I am wrong .... The on board computer will no longer function

I see that dynavin do a model d99 that offers trip computer functions via OBD port

I would really like the original ..... I am hoping to get one from an old 7-Series. I also have a 5th generation ULF that I plan to fit

Cheers

I have recently being doing alot of research on these and going to try the cheaper china copies. They have improved leaps and bounds in the last few year apparently. The shear complications of fitting an OEM to a car that was not fitted with one originally put me off. The OEM ones for the E39 period are pretty limited in my mind, you don't get bluetooth, USB or lots of other stuff. New dynavin types even come with 3G for internet.

I hear you can keep the OBC by just relocating the OBC box to the cubbly hole or somewhere else and then while you loose the screen you have the functions displayed in the instrument cluster and control via the stork for fuel consumption etc.

Now I have had it for a few days the D99+ is growing on me, they have certainly improved since I last considered one.

There is an OBC screen but some of the functions on mine are blank because the car is a 98. The later cars with the M62tu and m54 engines this should work fully.

Once one understands that this is actually a windows CE or Android based carputer system (they sell both options) and is mostly software based the thing is actually a lot of fun and reliable.

Most guys complain because they try press as many buttons as possible in a short sequence or rush through menues closing apps before they have fully opened and then it might do something quirky which is the nature of software........

Use it as intended and it's pretty cool I was really worried I had wasted my money before it arrived but, no that wasnt the case I like it a lot. The best bit was I get tons more fetures and I did not have to strip the car down to the frame to fit all manner of wiring harnesses and stuff for the OEM basic systems, yet the look is still damn close to oem.

Thanks for the info guys......Rick, where did you get yours......that is a good price.

Got my Dynavin from the NavShop here in Capetown.

Bruce Craig BMW has a widescreen OEM system there from a late E39 he was keeping it for himself, but I am certain some hard cash will pry it out his hands, give him a shout

So I lived with mine for 10 days on a long trip in Namibia.

I would say mixed feelings... Better than nothing but the touch screen is finiky. Best played with when at rest, playlists are a must, otherwise you end up giving up sdrolling through the 1000 odd artists on he ipod. I give up long before I reach Rammstein. System of a down is right out and ZZtop would be murder.

Navigation uses Garmap... but again is finiky and I spend the 5 minutes it takes to find something before I leave. Mind you this was a challenge for the navigation unit as we were in the middle of nowwhere Namibia. Impressive database... If you can find what you want. For example it will only search within 50km of your position.... or your destination. So if you are planning a350kmtrip to Namtib.... that id 100km from any town you cannot search for it.

But finiky things asside I am very happy with it and compared to a tape deck... no contest.
