Why are you a BMW fanatic?
My car history started at 18 with a Chevy, and then a bunch of VW Golf’s , a diesel Passat SW, A Toyota Cressida GLE:thumbdo:, and a Ford Cortina 2.0GL (which only lasted 3 weeks with me before being traded in for a UNO)
In 1994 we bought Mom a 198*Chrome bumper E30 318i as a Wedding Anniversary prizey– liked it a lot, Dad liked as-well so he bought a 198*chrome bumper E30 323i auto coupe,
I enjoyed drive the 2 E30’s but being tall, found them a little cramped, so sold the Uno and bought my 1st BMW. – An E28 520i auto (a/c, s/r etc. –silver with cloth blue interior)
Took a lot of flak from friends, calling it an old man’s car, even my Dad’s friends would ask him “why is your son driving your car?” :flyfun:
. But whose car was used on trips to Durban once a month!
Very smooth drive. Dropped a valve, had a 525 head fitted. Mid-range power was cool, cruised at 140 all day no problem, sadly the 520 was stolen, after they tried 3 times.:argh:
Drove a few golfs after that and a Mini Clubman
Bought Mom’s 318i, a nice honest “little” car! Did many happy miles.
Mom upgraded to a 733i which got traded in 1999 for 1990 E32 735i with FSH – Mom enjoyed driving from Kimberley to East London on regular basis
In 1998 Dad bought a 1985 E24 635csi (still with us –only just)
In 2007 Mom loaned the E32 to Dad and replaced it with a 1992 E34 535i (this is her baby - and no touch!!!!!):=):
Before moving to East London in 2000, traded e30 in on a 1993 E36 325I auto hull house
Upgraded to a set of free flow branches and the exhaust system to something very loud one did a manual conversion as well.
340000km on the clock when traded in on a 200sx
5 other cars – not happy with any
Nov 2008 – I bought another E34, a 1993 E34 525i, Felt happy driving again!
Did quite a few long trips in this car
Aug 2010 – a rush of blood to the head, I bought the 1994 E34 540i, 25 minutes after seeing it we were driving it home from PE.
Was to be a weekend toy! Well we all know what happen here, 540 became the daily drive:rollsmile:
Dad started driving the 525 until his retirement.
March 2012 sold 525i with 400000kms on the clock
July 2012 another 5 minute flight of madness – 1 times Dark Blue 1999 540i E39 with 6 speed with a very well-known history, both good and naught points.:blab:
YouTube evidence of the abuse plus proof of a tyre smoking habit (need to curb this last habit) :blab:
I prefer to drive BMW’s because they are well made, fairly reliable, comfortable plus fun to drive and 2nd hand ones are good value.
Big plus, the noise sorry the music a 6 cyl and v8’s make , you just want to take the long route home.
