I was 8 years old when my dad bought a new 1984 e30 320i 2 door. That is where it all started. Since then we had a few e30's around. Including 2 e30 325is's.

It was mainly the 3 series, 325's, 318MS, 323 ci, 330i, 325i etc etc.

Inbetween there was a 1969 2000cs, 1971 2002ti lhd, i had a few e46's, e34 m5 and so and so on.

So basically BMW has been a part of my life for the last 28 years. Will be a part of my life for the next 30 odd years to come.

I know my dad had an e12 518 prior to the e30's.

To my knowledge we have collectively owned:
19 somethìng e12 518
1984 E30 320i 2 door
1985 E30 320i 4 door
1987 E30 325i (still have that)
1969 2000cs
1971 2002 t
1995 e36 318 Motorsport
2000 e46 323 ci
2001 e46 330i
2006 e90 325i

1989 e30 325i
1990 e30 325 is evo 1

1991 e30 325is evo 2
2001 e46 318ti
1999 e46 328i
2003 e46 320i
1991 e34 m5
1996 e36 318i
1996 e34 540i
1997 e39 540i

Up until a year and a half ago, I thought that all BMW drivers were "cocks" (thanks top gear), and if you had told me that you had an E46, I would have directed you to the nearest GP/Doctor.

In the space of a month, January 2011, I fell for the E46 330i and spent days researching the BMW brand. I had always had a passion for driving, and during that month, I set out on a mission to find the right car. After numerous sleepless nights, I found the perfect car, and even on those off days on these bumpy roads, she still puts a huge grin on my face.

I hope to always have a BMW parked in the garage, they are just brilliant machines, through and through.

At my first job my boss asked me to take his e36 328i to the carwash. Now I had a 1976 vw beetle 1600s :mmm: and for those who know these cars, can vouch its a :mmm: .......

Now can you imagine going from a Beetle to a Bmw :inlove: words cannot describe the moment when I started it & drove off :joy: & thats where it all began....

Bought an e30 325i in 2005 just becuase it was cheap and sold it for 2 x what I paid for it 2 months later.

After it was gone I realized what I was missing. Never been without one since. It has not taken me away from my beloved V8 Ford though

Never was a BMW kind of person, I far preferred the underdogs to the mainstream (and still do), in fact I was very anti BMW.

When I joined the forum on request from the Don Father himself to give advice on oils and performance additives I started to fall in love with the brand, specifically the MINI part of the brand.

I have hardly driven BMW's, except up and down peoples driveways when detailing them.

But then, I think this is more a compliment to the people on this forum that share their love and passion for the brand than the car itself.

Front engined, rear wheel drive, manual gearbox, decent build quality, great Straight 6 and V8 engines, and excellent handling. Affordable second hand. Who else offers that package?

Oh, yes and the fact that when you get into one, no-matter what model, it feels like being greeted by an old friend...

I was never really that into cars and while I was a student I used think that every second person has a BMW and I doubt I would buy one as a result. It must be said that there was a pretty big BMW dealer right next door to the campus... which why it must have seemed like everyone owned a BMW.

Then became friends with a guy who had a E30 325i. It was full house with leather and sunroof. It also had a HUGE exhaust. That was it for me. My grandad came with me when we went looking for my first car and I walked straight passed everything there to the white E30 318i at the back. Started the car and all seemed OK for was then a 16 year old car. I was having it no matter what.

I bought the 540 as I LOVE V8's, specifically the older muscle kind like Stingrays or Mustang. Those cars are WAAAYYY out of my reach. I'm also not a fan of auto's which most V8's seem to be. So when the 540 6 speed was for sale it was a good way to get:
1. a Manual car with a V8
2. a BMW
3. Something that's practical with 4 doors and a proper boot
5. Something I could still drive everyday.

Still have the 318i and tend to drive for quick trips around town as it's much lighter on fuel than the 540. For me it's on the open road where BMW's really shine. :thumb:

It was an e36 M3 - that dirty.. sexy, almost evil, raw ass car opened a whole new world for me.. Unfortunately it wasn't mine but it lead me to looked deeper into the brand, the philosophy.

BMW's history and presence in a variety motorsport series, the launch of the S1000rr, the direction of the CSL and GTS, the return to ALMS to serve porsche with a round 2, more so the return to DTM and managing to retain their pace after decades in hybernation, the e60 M5, their uncanny ability to build the worlds finest fucking motors (second to NONE imo), composed-competent rwd chassis's, and amongst others.. have each & every model punch above its weight and come together like no other saloon as a 'complete package' irrespective of power output... fk I don't know, I'm just hooked.
Even today, with all the overpowering ///Marketing bullshit and performance pin stripes - when it's all said n' done and you spend a few minutes in any of their models.. It's instantly apparent that they still give a shit about the Driver

My dad, as far as I can remember, first owned a Chev 2500...back in the day...wayyy back...and then he came home one day with an E12 518...All the neighbours were jealous...hehehehe...needless to say, the bug bit. ever since then there has always been BMW's in the family...even my brother in law is now a BMW driver. My dad made the mistake of buying a Merc once...his next car after that was a 7 series...

My initial interest in cars started at a very young age. I was very big into American muscle cars, and absolutely mad about Corvettes (a brand I am still very fond of). My mother was, and still is, a big BMW fan, as her first real boyfriend had a 2002, and she was smitten by his car. My love affair with BMW's started in 1979 when my mom got her first BMW, a 1975 E12 520. That orange-lit-up dash made me feel like I was in a plane cockpit, and I have been hooked on the brand since, with a special fondness for E12's naturally. :=):
