Since I can remember I have been a ford man . During my primary school days it was the ford cortina xr6 and later the cossies. My first car was a Xr3 and later I owned Xr6 and a Xr8 Sierra. On the other hand my wife was a diehard BMW thinking that BMW are the best cars ever. What does a women know about cars right? So I buy her one and glance at it from inside my Mercedes some what superiorly wondering why the darn fool women won't see the wood for the trees and purchase something sensible . Then one day I am having my car serviced and use hers . The drive , handling ..... Everything is just right and the love affair begins . A true Damascus moment . How did your love affair with BMW begin?

Fiat and Alfa.....rwd with soul . Funny never really had reliability issues .
Alfa 3.0l Gtv and Bmw on race track

I have only owned 6 cylinder bm 3-series models , small car with solid big car feel . The sound of the motor and its ability to be revved to the redline many times in its life , not to mention the times when the co-ordination went wrong and the petrol pedal was on the floor and the clutch pedal came out quick ....

The e34 V8 sound , and what suprised me is the light clutch and steering...always liked their looks but saw it as a barge.....now I know it shrinks around the driver , like a Italian sports car

I have always liked BMW, since "The E28 520 that your dad had"

Drove lots of differant luxury cars inbetween, but have always loved the interior of the E65, have had a crush on it for years.

Then finally I bought one, and have owned 6 bmw's since :)

My first love is still an E65, I so want another....

But a facelift 750iL,or gasp at the 760iL.....

Most cars are simply appliances that are designed just to get you to and from your destinations - nothing wrong with that, but doesn't mean that driving should not be exhilarating at the same time! Every BMW that I have driven or driven in has always had the effect of making me feel special in some way. :praise:

And the fact that I spent almost 3 hours yesterday late afternoon washing my car enjoying every minute of it!!

That E34 has been in the family since I was a laaitie... My dad drove the car from Jo'burg and I joined along too..

Then the car was passed to my mother and then to my older brother and now its mine.

BMs especially E34s I feel are awesome because they're big, comfy and you feel like you own the road

+ this car's virtually indestructible :) (touch wood)

I'm a BMWF because it's in my genes, my parents had a range of BMWs, including the iconic 2002. I grew up in BMWs, perhaps not the latest & greatest ones but they were amazing nonetheless. I just sold my E46 320i, she was part of the family for 8 years & it was sad to let her go. I see BMWs as art or even family, definitely not as appliances.

6 years ago I needed a replacement for my MX6. Driving Japs all along, i decided to try the Germans out. I always (back then) loved Audi's and Mercs. My perception of BMW was that it was Ok if overrated (based on other peoples opinions combined with never really trying it out for myself).

I narrowed my choices down to a c230 kompressor sport and an audi A4 2.8 (12 valve). What let downs. The merc was a wheezy, leisurely thing. It could move, but only after asking you if you sure first...Sport it was not. Felt really solid though. Next up was the A4 (at the time I thought it was the 30v, only to find out months later it was actually a 12v), it was great, but I couldnt believe that 142kw could feel so pap (Remember I was told it was the 30v) and the cost of maintenance frightened me away. Really dissapointed, I scouted the classifieds (6 years ago gumtree wasnt really big) and came across a 1997 e36 328i for sale. With 2 minds I decided to test drive it atleast. WOW... It was better than the others in so many ways. The noise, the response, the handling, the way the car seemed to connect with your very nerve endings....It was a sensory overload. I bought the car on the spot. And I havent even thought about owning another brand of car since then. And every one of the 6 BMW's I owned since that first 328i have all made me feel the exact same way I felt the day it all began....

Around 1979, my uncle, a mechanic in Gezina, Pretoria, bought the first BMW in our family, a white auto 518, reg.no. CLL 550T!

His late brother was a car dealer and preferred Mercs but soon changed to BMW.

Before that, they drove Alfa Romeo - the GT Juniors and GTVs, as well as Ford and Chevrolet - the Cortinas, Novas and 4100s all modified at the time.

Later, the white BMW 518 one was traded for a 528i, full house while my dad was driving Datsuns at the time. I begged my dad to buy a 5 series in 1985. He bought a 518 exec with the 2.0 twin carb motor in metallic green from my late uncle, the car dealer. We sold it in 2003 for three times its purchase price.

We have had Mercs alongside BMWs since then but now, between my father, brother and I, we have four 5 series BMWs. We had a 7 series as well and even a 2002ti.

My uncle, who bought the first BMW in the family has 5 BMWs, the latest a 750i.

We have other makes as run-abouts but will always drive BMWs.

My brother and I grew up watching 'Derrick' on TV and that had a great influence on our love for BMWs!

Some pics of the BMWs from Derrick! We had an E12 just like the one in the first pic, and a 7 series like the second pic!

My first BMW was my moms old E36 316i. I took over the car at 6 years and 200 000km when I went to varsity. I washed it every Sunday by hand, nobody was touching it except me. And I have loved BMW every minute sine then.

My dad had a E36 318i, then a E46 320i and since 2006 a E90 323i. I drove all of them over the years, and when he got the 323i I decided that I would get one when I can afford it.

At the time I was driving a Polo 1.6, but then in 2007 I got my new E90 320d......

in 1980 my dad bought a E23 728 brand new....and I fell in love with it.

images

it wasn't very reliable, blew a cylinder head gasket within the first month or two, can remember it made my dad furious.

Then my own motor car history was very "non-descript", from a 1970 Mercedes 230, to a VW beetle, to VW van with a JT3000 conversion...

Whilst at Port Alfred in about 1990/1, I saw a brand new E32 735i, and wondered about who or how does one get to own a car as magnificent as this.

images

then in 1992 BMW introduced the E36 shape, and I just had to have one...but money wasn't around back then....until I started my current work/employer in 1995, and to spoil myself I bought an E36 325i ....which I owned until 2007...

the rest is history

E36 325i...E32 730i...E39 530d(current)...E28 520i...E38 740i(current)

I grew up in the ring of Bmw crazy guys. I remember the 80's when the E12 535i was the Hot property. Every Late Wednesday evening the Beemers would round up to take on their rivals. A race from Macassar to the Airport N2, flat. Just can't beat them on the top. It was like a BMW park-off in our road at night. AWESOME machines. Love them without driving aid. 240 - 260+ km/h was like taking a walk in the park.
I sometimes  at Adi's E12 whenever he posts. Brings back memories. Would live to own one, one day. The later models also excites me.
Ya. Loved the German product ever since. Today, they have all taken it to the track. :=):

was a vw fan,but always loved the sound of the straight 6 motors at the illeagal races and at tarlton.

when i had turbo issues with the vw tdi(again)looked for another german non turbo car and found my bm.

fell in love with it and have enjoyed it every since, and found this family, which has made it more special, nothing like a bunch of bm's on a lonely highway at night

Didnt like the looks of the E12 Shape Bmw. Got a lift with a family friend and the purr of the six cylinder motor while cruising and the soft leather seats change my opinion there and then from a E30 to this 5 series. i own the car that change my mind and i just love it to bits.

I was born into a BMW mad family. My dad worked for BMW town and eventually when I was 2 started his own used car dealership in Mowbray specialising in used BMW's the rest is history! It's all I knew and know.

Used to go to work with him every saturday, he also owned some very special BMW's. A Z1 , 850, many e36 m3's , a black e34 m5, a 325is , a 325 shadow-line race car, a 333, and he loved his 7series, he had two 750ils!

He currently still has a 1940 326 (believed to be the only one in Africa) and a e3 3,0si bavaria to be restored.

Guess you can see why I love my BMWs, and am proud to own my first bm now an e28 528!

Always been a Audi man. That's just how it worked out, never actually bought a BMW as a daily drive although it's been close a few times.
BMW affair started with... research, for the best value track car.
After a bit of reading the E36 was a no brainer.
Now that I have it though.. and enjoy it plenty, I can't help wonder what a new model would be like..

I wouldnt say im a BMW fanatic per se but I am a car fanatic. This means I love all cars, but as we have all learned, some are more equal than others.. this is where bmw came in...

I was looking for my first car as my moms mk1 Jetta GLI got stolen in front of the school. I asked my dad please anything but a golf. My cousin had an awesome '91 325 fullhouse and he couldnt stop talking about it.

We saw an ad for a 323 manual with 141k km on the clock and once i test drove it, it was all over. :inlove:
