If this topic was discussed in the past..My apologies

I have my pre-lci 320D 2 weeks now. Car is still with motor plan.. So i confidently called ACS for software upgrade.... The price..
R42000.00 the guy said it will go up to 150 odd kw/ 425nm . I emailed ACS abroad direct to ask if I can order directly from them and for how much..

When I heard the price I even said to the guy: SAY AGAIN ..Does anyone know how do they get to these prices

That is the out of motor plan route Im going to take. I drove the 2013 X1 20d and those 30nm extra make a big different. When i got back into my car i thought something was wrong.

I've been told ACS will cover things your motor plan wont because of the chip. Which is why its so damn expensive.

If you think that is expensive. Go call the dealer and ask what would be the labour charge to fit a full sports suspension kit, on something like a 1 series.

this is true and pushes the price up... also R&D is beyond what a normal tuner will do they do a fair amount of testing under different conditions to develop their maps...

most normal tuners will take an educated guess at the tune then iron out problems if they come up... over time the tunes become more reliable and effective...

what companies like ACS do is get a new car from BMW and do similar test cycles under different conditions similar to what BMW do when developing a new car this adds massive cost to development but also ensures that all issues are Ironed out on the 1st customers cars

Is it worth it?
that is for you to decide...

If MP is important to you and you will make use of the full 5 years it gives you then go ACS.. if you're like me and rack up the KMs then I would surely go with any of the contacts listed here. Have been keeping tabs on all their mods on the forum - search and check out their great work!

Reason for being expensive: Its motorplan approved. Don't want to sound too negative but if you only have 2 or 3 options in Motorplan they can afford to ask those prices. Even if its justified or not.

Believe me I know. I had my car for 1 day and the car had an oil leak. It ended up beind that a stone hit the gearbox sump.. The oil alone was R2700, hectic

So then why doesn't the tuners try and get motorplan approved... And what I cannot understand if a particular tuner fits software on my car and my boot light fuses( for argument sake).. What does that have to do the software.. Why can't motorplan fix the boot light..

Its the same as Dinan software upgrades in the U.S

They are BMW approved, But Dinan will cover the repair if anything goes wrong with the car in terms of the tune, thats why BMW approved software is so expensive

Alpina and AC Schnitzer are BMW factory recognised manufacturer at OEM level.
This is the reason why everything ist tested and tested and tested again and again before it is released to the market.

This kind of Research & Development is cost intensive and has -of course- to be paid by someone.... YOU the customer
