Whoever said 330's are heavy on petrol??

I have come to the conclusion that it is not the car thats heavy on petrol but the driver.

On Thursday last week i left JHB for DBN, once on the N3 and the traffic died down, i set the cruise control (CC) to 140km (GPS Speed) and set sail for the coast.

I had a half tank before i left so i filled up just before the Villiers Toll. From that full tank, i got 502km to dbn with the needle sitting just below half.

Eventually got 695km of the full tank and the average went up to 8.4l/100km after a bit if town driving.

Driving back to JHB, i decided to set to 160km and trail a Merc CLC350. Eventually got bored of that and got home 4 hours after leaving DBN. Still made it with 1 tank and got some left in the car at the moment...

thats brilliant, my last trip to EL from CT, i drove most of the way at about 160, and averaged 7.2l/100, which is a negligable difference considering the extra power you have in the 330 compared to my 320.

But admit it Mr A, it was BORING, wasn't it? You've definitely got self control if you can control the urge to really PLANT that throttle for more than 3 hours...

My good intentions usually lasts for 20km's and then it's open ALL the way... :)

Hellas, you are 100% correct. I did go down to 220km once but that was it, i am sh!t scared to go to jail hence i take it easy especially on the N3.

Towards Mooi River i set the speedo to 145 cos i love the road there, as soon i did that i got stopped by cops. Caught me doing 143km. R100 got me out of that...

What about city cruzin ?:mmm:

i know my 325 gulps anything from 15.5 to 19.2 L in traffic :dropjaw:

i normally get around the 7 L mark on the open road -

Thanks bud...

If i use the 330 to work and back which is a 50km round trip using backroads in peak hours i average between 11l and 12.5l/100km depending on how terrible traffic is...

If your 325 is manual, try not to coast in neutral or with the clutch in. Rather let it roll in gear... It saves petrol.

I have noticed that the fuel consumption guage (the one that moves as you accelerate) is at 0 if you in gear but not accelerating but when it neutral or clutch in goes up to about 5 or 6. I could be wrong, but i feel that the consumption is low cos i do that...

lol... at highway cruising, the cars are frugal but that all goes out the window with in city driving coupled with short sprints!

Thats the same figure I get when driving around town... 15.5 to 19l is retarded. I have never gotten that no matter how hard I was driving.

I noticed the same figure of 7.9L/100km on Gizmo's silver 330i's computer at the meet at the hills, the reason why I can still remember is that I was blerrie impressed gewees!!

So far town driving has given me quite a pleasant surprise of 10.7l/100km
and on the open road it is far lighter. i'm glad i bought the 330!

BMW's are very efficiant cars, people dont understand the concept of efficiancy, thats the problem. My friend has a Honda Vtec and its far less efficiant than my 328i, even in town driving. I average around 9.2l/100km town, and if i drive sparingly (boringly) i can drop it on a freeway to 6.2l/100km.

Holy Cow! Did you have a tailwind? I have a 330i cabriolet and I get 14.0 city and 11.5 freeway. Oh, the worst I got was driving at 120K/hr was 16.0l/100km...............towing my boat. OK, I'm going to beat your 7.9 Mr_Abree, well, I'll try...:cursin:

My diesel gives me about 9 but I drive her hard,

My 540 gives me 11 on the open road, and up to 19 in dead traffic, average is 15, but it is a V8

Interesting thread this is, i was concerned abt fuel Econ when i got my cabby, i travel abt 80kms return in peak traffic, surprisingly i average 10-11 l/km, if i cruise on the open road i can get it down to 7 - 8 l/km, on a steptronic 335i.

It all comes down to gearing. the touque peak on a 330 is prob about 2800 rpm so In my thinking you'll use the last amount of effort if you cruising at that rpm, with the 330's longish gearing that's about 140 in 6th

the vrou sits in residential traffic an works 3.9 km away from home
she doesn't go pass 40km/h -on friday afternoon it read 15.2L/100km:cursin:

just had a peep at the OBC this morning:thinker:

i used it this weekend -12l/100 freeway and residential -cowboy style:slap:

if you set your c/control to 175km/h your consumption needle sits at 2
uphill or down hill - it seems to be the sweet spot on my 325
