Whistling Sound

Hello All,
I am new to this forum and each day is a learning experience.
I have a 98 E36 M3 (4 door) and have started experiencing a horrible whistling sound that seems to emanate from the centre vent.I only experience this sound at about 140 km/h and it seems to be intermittent.
The windscreen was changed in June last year, could the sound be emanating from a poor seal?
I cannot pinpoint it exactly, and because its intermittent, my mechanic thinks Im smoking something.
Has anybody experienced something like this?
Kindly assist,as this sound is driving me insane.

see if you change the heater knob from cold to warm if the whistle dissapears. Had same issue with my 97 323i sport.

This vehicle has auto climate control. There is no heater knob to turn.
Any other suggestions?

What? Knob and buttons do the same thing but look different. Are you stating that a car with climate control can't manually be switched between the 2 extremes?

Then turn your climate control apparatus to test if you have no knobs. When this noise starts, is it on circulate or fresh air? By the way, climate controlled ventilation has this feature too.

there is a heater dial right underneath the middle vent. If this is turned to cold then no matter what temp you adjust the climate control the temperature in car won't heat up. This dial needs to be turned to allow heater to work to enable the climate control from doing it's job.

I always turned mine to cold during summer.

try this out and let us know:thumbs:

I think I have a problem similar to yours but on a S50 M Coupe. My whistling on happens when cruising at 120km/h. I will try the heater suggest.

Heres the solution.

1. Start the car
2. Open driver door
3. Go to boot
4. Open boot
5. Remove tyre spanner
6. Beat the oke sitting in the boot whistling all the time.
7. Replace tyre iron
8. Enter car
9. Close door.
10. Get to cruising speed
11. Whistling sound is fixed
