mine was making a noise, turned out to be viscous fan clutch? check it maybe

bmw say it cant be a viscous fan clutch because it has an electronic fan, they suggest its an alternator pulley or bearing ?

i will need to take it in so they can listen and isolate the sound!:cursin:

so after 6 visits back and forth to BMW
they changed the power steering pump
they changed the alternator pulley and guide
and still the same sound.

so now it could be a timing chain which is too tight because when you you drive it at hi revs it picks up the slack to help acceleration and response:blab: , but the doubt bmw sa will give authrisation to open the motor to correct this and it will probably happen again anyway.

the the made me drive a 325 coupe with the same engine and said ,"see its normal this one makes that noise too ".

so my advice to anyone looking for a 325i, buy a prefacelift not and lci , its a complete fuckup of a car , feels low on power , the exhaust is too quiet and the engine whines!:argh:

anybody want to buy it ?

Maybe take it to a reputable independent workshop for an assessment. Then take the report to a BMW dealer.

update

so i met with the bmw rep today, he agrees there is an excessive whining from the front , has localised it to the gearbox or flywheel , but requires further assessment , another guy from JHB gonnas take a look , specialises in gearboxes on bmw audi and merc.

so now we wait ...........again

With my car, E46 325i it turned out to firstly be the PCV valve, when that was fixed the next whining I heard was the alternator bearing and tentioner pully...

Always new issues when the seasons change. Increase/decrease in the temp reveals some surprise unfortunately.

- not whining but tikitik like a diesel (no offence diesel heads - I like diesel too). A 6cyl pertol should purrrr and be smooth.

I almost sold mine this week for a 320d - I was on the verge of signing the paperwork.

Myself and Coisman got the lazyness out of him - a bottle of fuel line cleaner in the tank and some pretty hard driving the next 200km resulted in an empty tank :roflol: and the irratic hesitant behaviour to be a thing of the past.

I shared your sentiments...:argh:

BTW, mine is a 2006 pre-facelft.

It could be the ruber seals on your aircon. Had a similar problem. The first time I was told that they had to replace the pulleys due to misalignment. Had to take car back three times and had to leave it at the workshop before they found the problem
