Whining Noise? E36

Hey guys,

So last night my car started to whine... Not GF, but the car...

I think it might be the power steering pump or...?

It sounds 'squeaky' and goes away when i rev the car... Weird.

Can anyone help or had a similar problem? :thumbs:

Hey Jiggy,

Sounds like it could be one of your belts could be slipping - check that they have adequate tension or replace them - start with the cheap and easy to do things first.

+1 could be loose fan belt

If it is fan belt that is loose, just tighten. 5min max.

+1, that or your pulleys/tensioners are giving in, mines sounded like a cat was in the engine compartment, i wasnt sure exactly where it was coming from as there are so many things going on(in the engine bay) and as you rev it higher, the noise becomes hi pitched, then goes, i left it but then it broke when my father used the car, the pulley stripped off completely. Got new 1s, noise gone and running fine!
